Starting with this one, I’m taking a look at Wings/Forwards who progressed.
Let’s take a look at the first few, with more to come later!
Notables:
• Mitch Raifsnider (6’8” / PF 2021 / Margaretta / Ohio Buckets): Many learned what Mitch was capable of the last four months. Bribing a mobile 6-8 frame to the table, that moves well anywhere in the half-court. Knockdown shooting from the outside, gives Mitch floor stretching ability that is hard to compete with. The long frame should translate well to a high D2, or LM D1 program. The forward is a competitor, and a small town name to know.
• Sam Barton (6’4” / PF 2020 / Columbus South): In June, Barton played well at a couple HS runs. Barton is moving better, developing a more capable jump-shot and is playing with an improved motor. Barton could be the third best player on South this winter, expecting a spike in production. It’s seemed like the Senior has slimmed down a little bit, and it’s benefited everything above. A player to watch through the fall to the spring.
• TJ Pugh (6’5” / WF 2021 / Shelby / Extreme Heat): TJ was the best all around player in the MOAC last year, and will be even better this coming season. Has improved his jumper, which was the biggest weak-link in his game, but still capable. Has worked in the gym, improved his vertical and overall explosiveness. Still not the highest, but he gets it done in other ways. Tough through the lane, good footwork in the post. Expect to see TJ as a 20-10 guy this winter.
• Zion Reynolds (6’4” / WG 2021 / Western Hills): Zion Reynolds broke on to my coverage seem this summer, with some stellar play. I was able to watch him and the Ohio Players on multiple occasions. Zion gets to the hoop with ease and creates a lot on-ball. Interacts on defense with length, and versatility.
• Kaveon Ross (6’5” / PF 2020 / Walnut Ridge / Hidden Gems): Ross wasn’t involved in the offense to much for Walnut Ridge last year, but things should change this year. The 6-5 Ross has developed more of a ability to stretch the floor. Which, opens up his offensive game even more. Improved physicality, above the rim play and defense will do numbers for him and Walnut Ridge.
