Here is a brief rundown of five local guards in the 2021 class who’ve been playing well recently and could boost their stock this month.
DYLAN EDWARDS | 6’1 G | ST. ANDREW’S/TEAM BBC
Edwards shot it well at DMV Live II, but was also able to attack closeouts and mix it up inside the arc as well. He’s playing much more confidently than in the past and it’s been good for his productivity.
COLE HANIN | 5’10 PG | BULLIS/TEAM BBC
Hanin is a pure point guard who continues to prove he can run a team at a high-level, defend, and consistently make shots from long range. He is a winner who offers intangibles that coaches look for.
ELIJAH HAWKINS | 5’9 PG | DEMATHA/NEW WORLD
Hawkins is a quick floor general that plays with tremendous pace. He’s a scrappy on-ball defender who can facilitate and score from all three levels.
ZION RUSSELL | 6’0 G | GEORGETOWN PREP/TEAM DURANT
Russell is making shots at a high clip this summer, but has improved as an all-around playmaker as well. Minimizing turnovers and playing more efficiently will be key to unlocking his full potential.
BEN WILLIAMS | 6’0 PG | ST. MARY’S RYKEN/DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
Williams sets the tone on the defensive end by picking up full court and pressuring the ball constantly. He’s a good ball-handler who is best getting out in transition and pulling up on a dime from mid range, but is improving as a facilitator in half-court sets.
