Here is a brief rundown of five local bigs in the 2021 class who’ve been playing well recently and could boost their stock this month.
JOHN IZEMEF | 6’9 C | NATIONAL CHRISTIAN/NEW WORLD
Izemef is a rim-running big man who catches lobs and is available for dump-offs, but can also score with his back to the basket. On the defensive side, he’s a good rim protector who can rebound out of his area.
CLARENCE OBIAJULU | 6’6 C | CITY/TEAM THRILL
Obiajulu is a long-armed, energetic big man who moves bodies in the paint. He doesn’t need much of the ball to impact the game which is quite admirable.
COLE PAAR | 6’9 C | GLENELG COUNTRY/DC PREMIER
Paar was flat-out impressive at DMV Live II, and looks set for a major uptick in recruitment. He’s a strong inside presence who rebounds, keeps plays alive, and demonstrates a wide arsenal of post moves.
ABDOU SAMB | 6’8 C | FREDERICK DOUGLASS/DC PREMIER
Samb is improving rapidly, and is becoming more dominant as he continues to grow into his body. He’s able to score inside out and protect the paint as well as any big on this list.
O’MEECH WILSON | 6’5 PF | NORTH COUNTY/CRUSADER NATION
Wilson is still a bit raw offensively, but is borderline elite on the defensive side. He plays much bigger than his listed height and blocks shots almost instinctively.
