Point Guards with Tenacious Defense: KB Sports Central Georgia Exposure
Good point guards can handle the ball, read the other teams defense and avoid traps. A point guard may be one of the most demanding positions. Generally, people think of point guards as being able to control offense, but what happens when the point guard plays the best defense on the hardwood?
Defense is the result of hustle and determination. Darius Dunn, Cameron Person and Shannon Fountain are point guards that play hard-nosed defense every possession.
Darius Dunn, 2019, 6’0, recently graduated from high school. He is best known for his liveliness on defense. Dunn plays with high energy and excitement. His aggressiveness causes agitation to the opposing team. Dunn is the type of player that torments his opponent, he doesn’t let up. He causes players to be frustrated, forces turnovers and defends intensely.
Cameron Person, 2023 5’9, is a top defender because of his ability to change the momentum of the game. The game isn’t the same without Person on the floor. He is a significant contributor for his team. What I most enjoyed about his style of play was his enthusiasm. Person’s eagerness to carry his team made him a standout defensive player. He’s a player that can score and stop others from scoring.
Shannon Fountain, 2023, 5’7, was one of the best on ball defenders at the tournament. Fountain can force tempo, slow the game down and force stops and possessions. He puts pressure on his opponent resulting in steals that he’s able to turn into fast breaks. Fountain is able to read the offense and make plays for his team. He prompts a faster pace for his team allowing opponents to score less when he’s on the floor.
