Teams from up and down the west coast and even as far as Kansas City made their way to Irvine, California for the final team event of the club season. Here’s who stood out from the state of California!
Day 1 Standouts:
2021 6’7 F Alex Stein (The Truth OC 16u) – Under the radar forward prospect that instantly stood out due to his length and energy on the court. He pinned multiple attempts off the glass and ran the floor with ease. He plays with some swagger and is definitely an energy type player at this stage. His frame could easily add some muscle and his offensive skill set could continue to be developed.
2021 6’1 PG Randall Branch (The Truth OC 16u) – An aggressive and attacking point guard with solid body control finishing around the rim. He he was solid with the ball in his hands and balanced out passing and scoring. Randall also showed some range to the three line.
2021 6’7 SF Chase Herring (California Select Red 16u) – Wing player with a lean frame. He showed confidence shooting the three at 6’7 and he appeared to be pretty skilled all around. He will need to add strength and become more physical moving forward.
2020 6’6 F Gabriel Springer (MAP Elite 17u) – Another forward prospect with unlimited amounts of energy. He is quick off the floor and has some bounce to his step for sure. Springer moved his feet well defending guards on switches on ball screens and he crashed the offensive boards hard.
2020 6’7 F Cory Knutson (O.C. Rain Craig 17u) – Hard working forward that rebounds and tries to play physical, although he can continue to get stronger. Showed a decent skill set on offense and some stretch 4 ability. One D3 coach mentioned to me that he would be a good fit at their level.
2021 6’3 G Alton Dubois (Coastal Premier Slayers 16u) – Good athlete with natural feel for the game. Smooth with ball in his hands and an above average facilitator. Dubois also has a solid shot from behind the three line. A player to watch in California.
