Team Griffin 63 PSA Cardinals 49
PSA jumped out on Griffin early 20-7 behind a strong showing from their big man, Micawber Etinne. He gave Griffin major problems with his strength inside early.
Team Griffin head coach Kellen McCoy made what was the change of the game switching to a zone on defense, which held PSA to just four points the rest of the half. Around the same time as the switch JJ White entered the game looking like the energizer bunny off the bench. Three crucial steals by White along with a few key buckets in transition helped lift Team Griffin to be tied on the scoreboard at 24 as the halftime buzzer sounded.
In the second half Griffin started to play more like themselves. The game was still in the balance when Trey Alexander caught fire going on a personal 9-0 run. KJ Adams followed suit with an outstanding showing down low to make his presence known. The size and strength of Adams was clearly too much. Once he made his mind up to attack inside Adams had his way.
Jaxson Robinson had a good shooting night with three makes from downtown. Griffin will need him to continue to shoot it well.
Late in the game the big fella from Atlanta, Texas Daimion Collins found his stride blocking multiple shots.
Griffin plays Pro Skills tomorrow at 11am Central Time. If Griffin wins tomorrow they are qualified from the Elite 8.
The Texas Titans rolled to victory over Seattle Rotary on opening night, 101-86. Oklahoma’s own, Rondel Walker finished with 17 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds. Walker is back in action at 8:00 AM.
