Eric Blackwell Eric Blackwell 6'0" | CG Corona del Sol | 2020 State AZ 6’0 PG 2020 Corona Del Sol (Firestorm 17U)
Blackwell managed the tempo well for the Firestorm and was a lockdown defender. He was the most productive and efficient player for the Firestorm all weekend. He makes good decisions with the basketball and shot it at a high level. More importantly, he knows how to put his teammates in good spots. He was extremely solid.
Isaac Monroe Isaac Monroe 5'11" | PG Peoria | 2020 State AZ 6’0 PG 2020 Peoria (Firestorm 17U)
Monroe often times get classified as a shooter. However, he has made the transition to being a point guard with Peoria and got to play in the backcourt often with Blackwell at this event. While he shot it well, what impressed me the most was how the game slowed down for him at the point guard spot. He made a lot of good reads and used his handle to set defenders up so he could get to where he wanted to get to on the floor. Monroe is a much improved prospet.
Abdi Odowaay 5’11 PG 2019 Cesar Chavez (Team Zona 17U)
Odowaay showed flashes of a guard who can definitely earn a role at the next level. Playing as an unsigned senior, this tournament was important to his recruitment, and he made the most of it. Despite being undersized, he finished well around the rim. In addition, he did a good job of creating for his teammates and letting it fly from deep.
JJ White JJ White 6'3" | SG Ironwood | 2021 State AZ 6’3 SG 2021 Ironwood (Team Zona 17U)
White, much like Black, scored the basketball extremely well from deep. He has good size for an incoming junior. Further, he is not afraid to let the basketball fly from anywhere on the floor. He averaged nearly 4 three pointers per game. He got it off on quick closeouts and over lengthy defenders. White is a college ready shooter.
Bailon Black Bailon Black 6'4" | CG Ironwood | 2021 State AZ 6’4 PG 2021 Ironwood (Team Zona 17U)
Black might have had the best minutes out of any of the guards for Team Zona. On multiple occasions, he came into the game and immediately began filling it up from deep. Further, he showed an improved ability to put the basketball on the floor and attack hips. He was the talk of the town among many college coaches as they loved his length, shooting, and basketball IQ.
Jahon Lethridge Jahon Lethridge 6'0" | CG Thunderbird | 2021 State AZ 6’1 PG 2021 Thunderbird (Team Zona 16U)
Lethridge was a prospect whom I saw very little of prior to this event. He played out of his mind. He is a strong guard who can let it fly from deep. Further, he plays with a toughness and grit to him on the defensive end of the floor that is special. Moreover, he has a good understanding of angles and created a number of steals. Keep an eye on Lethridge as he should have a huge year for Thunderbird.
