There was a lot of good talent in the building. Here’s a look at some of the top Southern California wing scorers that I saw at the event.
1. Keith Dinwiddie – Fairfax 2020
Dinwiddie is an incoming senior who has picked up quite a few Division 1 offers this month. He’s a flat out scorer on the wing whose range extends to the NBA three-point line. There isn’t a spot on the floor he can’t shoot from. He’s very difficult to defend when he gets going. He’s a very strong guard too and can easily get to the rim and score while absorbing contact. He can act as a playmaker as well for his teammates.
2. Tyler Powell – Ribet Academy 2021
Powell is a transfer from St. Bernard who helped Ribet win a state championship this past season. He’s actually adjusting from being a post player to now playing on the wing. He looks very comfortable with the basketball in his hands, making plays off the dribble for himself or his teammates. He’s also strong when attacking the rim and he’s a good shooter from the perimeter. Can get himself to the free-throw line.
3. Kenneth Simpson Jr. – Chaminade 2021
Simpson has also picked up a few Division 1 offers this summer. As he gets ready for his junior year, don’t be surprised to see some more offers roll during the course of the season. He might not look like it, but he’s deceptively strong as a guard, especially when it comes to crashing the glass. He’s a knockdown shooter from three-point range. In transition, he can either go all the way to rim, or knock down pull-up jumpers. He’s a good passer to and is able to draw defensive attention to make plays for his teammates.
4. Vaughn Flowers – Rolling Hills Prep 2020
Flowers is entering his senior year, and he really developed last season and over the summer thus far as a scorer. He’s a very explosive athlete and he’s always looking to finish any look he gets close to the rim with authority. His jumper is solid, he score in the midrange, and he can extend his range out to the three-point line. He’s really polished his offensive game and he is poised to have a big senior season.
5. T.J. Wainwright – Westchester 2021
Wainwright recently transferred from Santa Monica to traditional LA powerhouse Westchester. He’s also picked up some Division 1 offers this month. He’s a flat out scorer/shooter in every sense of the words. He had big performances at the showcase where he displayed his craftiness and ability to light it up from anywhere on the court. He’s incredibly tough to guard when he has it going offensively. The lefty scorer can knock down jumpers with defenders in his face. He can also get to the rim and finish as well.
