Some of the teams were missing guys for various reasons – notably many top players were up in Bellevue for the WIBCA showcase – but there were plenty of quality players in action. Here are some of the top forwards we saw.
Jalen Grable (2021 Westview) – Grable may be the biggest stock riser from the Class of 2021 this summer. After only dunking for the first time in a game earlier this month, the 6-foot-4 rising junior is throwing down jams on a regular basis and that continued at Oregon Team Camp. In the win against Crater, he took the matchup against Nathan Bittle almost as a personal challenge and it for sure helped his confidence level that he played well. As he continues to develop his perimeter skills and transition into being more of a wing, the sky is the limit.
Joe Juhala (2020 West Linn) – For those who follow the scene, we often forget that at 6-foot-7, 200-pounds Juhala is one of the bigger players in the state. A lot of it has to due with the fact he has often drifted on the perimeter in the past, but at camp he was focused on playing big inside. He fought hard for rebounds and played solid post defense, but still took advantage of open shots to hit a couple of threes. Juhala has a lot of potential and it seems like he’s putting it all together.
Kruger Edwards (2020 Crater) – Edwards is well-built physically, jumps very well, and has the ability to shoot from the outside. The 6-foot-5 forward is still trying to put everything all together but he showed some flashes here and there over the course of the weekend. It can be tempting at times to expect more out of guys who have a lot of natural ability but Edwards certainly has potential and he recently earned his first scholarship offer from Lane CC.
Gus Michelon (2020 West Linn) – Michelon was a bit of a jack-of-all-trades guy from what we saw in the West Linn games we watched. The 6-foot-3 rising senior would score a little here, grab some rebounds there, and utilize his length on defense. He’s got the makings of being a good “glue guy” for the Lions.
Keshav Anand (2022 Westview) – Anand is another Westview product who continues to emerge as a contributor. The 6-foot-5 rising sophomore was solid playing in the high post and along the baseline, whether it was spotting up for a mid-range left jumper or creating a bit off the dribble. His confidence level in his own game seems to be growing.
