Continue ReadingOhio recruits had an opportunity to display their talent in front of a lot of D-II and D-III program in the region at NIKE Summer Championship sponsored by All-Ohio Basketball and TNBA in Columbus this weekend (July 19-21) as the summer comes to a close. This being my first time to watch these players, a lot of them really stood out and have a chance to be very good players at the next level.
Here is who took advantage of the spotlight and caught my eye:
CJ Anthony (2020) | 6-0 PG | Harvest Prep | All Ohio Red
Strong, quick guard who plays the game the right way. In the couple games I watched, CJ played with confidence and used his great ball handling skills and strength to play at a pace that he wanted. He hardly plays out of control and almost always makes the right play and never tries to forces things and tries to make low percentage player/pass or takes bad shots. He is an very good catch and shoot 3PT shooter, who is capable of making 3 to 4 in a row. In addition, he can defend at a very high level.
Keaton Turner (2020) | 6-0 PG | Coffman | Ohio Hoopsters – Jones
Under the radar point guard. Really played well in the couple times I saw him this weekend. Very good shotmaker: Can make shots from all 3 levels: from 3, to the cup and in the mid range. In addition, he has good enough quickness and strength to be a very good defender as well.
Jalen Sullinger (2021) | 5-9 PG | Thomas Worthington | All Ohio Red
Lefty Point who plays down hill. While not big or super fast, knows how to get to the basket and has the ability to score in different ways inside 8′. In a very good game vs. TNBA , he continued to make plays in the last 3 minutes to help lead All Ohio Red to a 2 point victory. The thing I would have liked to see more was his ability to make more shots from outside 10′ and create scoring opportunities for others. That will be a key for him when he plays at the next level.
Tevin Jackson (2020) | 5-9 PG | Cleveland Central Catholic | TNBA Ohio
Another Point that plays within himself and seems like he always makes the right play and does not make bad decisions. Great vision and finds or creates scoring opportunities for his teammates in both games I watched him play. Not super quick, but does a great job of changing speeds and is able to get around his defender at will. Good shooter from all levels and good feet on defense. The key to him is to continue to get stronger to be able to defend bigger guards.
Travis Easterly (2020) | 6-0 PG | Youngstown Chaney | Miller Factory
Travis is a sleeper that played very well in the spurts I saw him. He has great vision and does the best job I saw this weekend of kicking it ahead hitting open people immediately that lead to scores. For a team that likes to run and wants a point guard who looks to distribute, he is a must watch. Decent shooter, but must continue to get better. Strong defender, but must get a little quicker. While he played the Point on Offense, usually guard the other teams wings.
Sean Jones (2022) | 5-11 PG | Gahanna | All Ohio Red
Young point guard that has a scoring mentally. Very quick and can get by defenders anytime he wanted. Has the ability to be a very good point guard, but keys are his ability to continue to create opportunities for his teammates and become a big time defender that end of the court. Looking forward to continue to watch him develop over the next 3 years.
