Here are 5 Takeaways from Nightrydas-E1T1:
What’s next
Nightrydas, now 4-1 at the Peach Jam, advances to Sunday’s 10:30 a.m. championship game vs. Team Final, out of Pennsylvania.
Team Final (4-1) defeated Bradley Beal Elite, 61-57, to advance.
Nightrydas routed Team Final, 91-58, here on Friday. Its lone loss is a 70-61 verdict to Team Melo.
Montero ‘makes things go’
Nightrydas (and DME) 2022 Jean Montero is something to watch. The 6-foot-3 guard does everything well. Montero can score on all three levels: He can hit the 3, is excellent at nailing the runner or he can beat you to the rim . The Dominican Republic native scored 22 points — including three 3-pointers — in the W over E1T1. Montero is not only quick, but he hustles, something not lost on coach Boobie Francis, (pictured below).
“With Montero on the court, he’s a settler,” Francis said. “He’s a guy that’s a true point guard. He gets us settled down when things are going whack and the kid’s a bonafide scorer. His knowledge of the game is way above some of these guys and you can tell when he is out there he makes things go.”
Sharp and crafty
Emanuel Sharp gave Nightrydas Elite everything it wanted … and more. He canned 11 field goals and got to the free-throw line often (8 makes) to finish with 31 points in the semifinals. The 6-3 2022, out of Tampa Blake, is quicker than he may look. In a word I would describe Sharp (pictured below) as a “scorer.” And he gets the job done in a variety of ways.
“He’s the real deal,” E1T1’s Steve Reece said. “This stage is the stage where people go from being unknown to be one of the top-10 kids in the country. I’m super proud of our guys. We’ve got a group of kids that haven’t seen this and for them to come in and do what they did today is remarkable.”
Florida makes statement
Getting two 15U programs into the national semifinals says a lot. Both coach Reece and coach Francis commented on the accomplishment after the game.
“A lot of talent [on the floor],” Reece said. “Two really good programs. A lot of talent. Well-coached … both teams. Look to be in the final four of Peach Jam with the best teams in the country and we had to knock each other off.”
“Right there is what I love about Augusta,” Francis added. “That just shows how much talent there is in Florida. For us to be in battle in the final four in the Peach Jam …”
Typical Glenn stuff
Nightrydas 2022 standout Gregg Glenn III had another typical Gregg Glenn kind of game. The 6-7 forward from Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian is becoming a double-double machine. He put up 18 points and I had him for at least 9 rebounds. Glenn does an excellent job taking a hit and still being strong enough to complete the and-one. And his passing ability does not get enough credit. … E1T1 6-4 2022 Brice Sensabaugh drilled four 3-pointers on the way to a 19-point performance.
