I seen a lot of new faces on the court I hadn’t seen, and seen some players I haven’t watched in a while.
In the final breakdown, we’re looking at prospect evaluations, how the weekend faired for these young men.
Prospects:
• Michael Amoah (F 2021 /Thomas Worthington): Hidden Gems program, well, often has hidden gems. Amoah didn’t play varsity basketball last high school season, from what I was told, but competed well this weekend. I liked the motor the forward worked with, going hard at times. Finished tough inside, where he did most of his scoring. Good length which benefited the shot contest, also. A raw talent, but with time in the gym, I think Amoah can continue to trend up.
• Gbolahan Adio (6’3” / WG 2020 / Richmond Heights / All-Ohio Red): Adio comes off as a physical presence from the guard position. Plays above the rim, and finishes strong in traffic. Knocked down the outside jumper, also. Likes to work off the bounce, and, can control the game. Moves pretty fluid, can meet opposing players at the rim.
• Aaron Davis (6’0” / G 2021 / Woodward HS / Ohio Players): Aaron Davis in my opinion has been a riser this summer, making noticeable improvements. Tough kid that can finish strong at the hoop. Also, was able to get to the line. Works off ball, or can handle it. Does a lot of the dirty work, getting loose ball, making extra passes, and key defensive stops.
• Josh Irwin (6’6” / PF 2021 / West Geauga / TNBA Ohio): Irwin showed a pretty soft touch around the rim, but was most impressed with about to stretch the floor, 16-18 foot jumpers are smooth. But, by stretching the floor, he created driving lanes for guards, which his team benefits from. In an amateur environment he often has to guard an opposing big, which he did well, always moving.
• Kalen Etzler (6’8” / PF 2021 / Convoy / All-Ohio Red): Kalen was the best prospect in Columbus all weekend, so he had some favorable matchups, most of the time. Etzler showed a face up game, working off the dribble. Attacking the basket, and post work all were in his bag. Working as a trailer as a clean up man, is another way Kalen can score it. Stretches the floor to get the opposing big out of the paint, also. Finished strong at the hoop, through contact. Buckeyes have a gem here.
