With an advanced skillset and great size for a guard at 6’4”, Berry made scoring the ball look easy. He has a solid handle and creates his own shot well, connecting at a high rate in the game I watched. Even with defenders on him, Berry could hit jumpers because of his height and length. He also used these qualities when attacking the basket, gliding through the lane and extending to finish at the rim. As Panther Creek took down Farmville Central, Berry put up 19 points and 7 rebounds. His natural scoring ability and smooth overall game have me wanting to see more of him this month, I think he will really open some eyes before the end of July.
PG Tyler Rice (Ridge View)- Having seen Rice with Team Loaded, I came in expecting him to perform well. He did not disappoint, combining to form a nice backcourt duo with Cincere Scott. In the Ridge View games I was able to catch, Rice took a backseat with his scoring and decided to set the table for his team instead. He has a smooth, poised game that provides a good example for teammates of how to stay calm and composed. Rice makes the correct pass with accuracy on the move, even when he decides to put his foot on the gas pedal and get downhill with his speed. In a win over Vance, Rice had 7 assists and recorded very few turnovers. When needed, he has no issue putting the ball in the basket. Rice is an effective shooter from deep and can connect on crafty finishes inside. Already receiving significant early recruitment, he should draw a good amount of coaches next week.
F Will Felton (Millbrook)- Felton was one of the more physically impressive prospects I watched at the whole camp, and he’s just a rising junior. He was a low-maintenance, high-production player in both Millbrook games I caught. Felton does not need tons of touches or time with the ball in his hands to contribute, which is valuable on a talented Millbrook team. Felton is a reliable finisher and uses his body to get good positioning for easy basket on the interior. I really liked the motor Felton plays with; he runs the floor hard and makes an impact in the paint on both ends. He’ll swat away shots and grab rebounds whenever an opportunity presents itself. Although he had lots of interest coming into the camp, I was surprised he didn’t have any offers yet. That changed quickly, with Elon extending an offer Sunday night. He is trending upward as we head into the July live period.
W Chris Ford (North Mecklenburg)- Ford’s activity and ability to provide mismatches helped North Meck a ton against Leesville on Sunday. At 6’5”, he plays much bigger than that for the Vikings, hurting opponents with his aggression and physicality. In a win against Leesville Road, Ford went for 13 points and 12 rebounds, imposing his will on the smaller LR team and impressing with his efficiency. Although he plays big and does the dirty work, Ford is more of a natural wing. He is comfortable with the ball in his hands, but does not overdo things when he is dribbling. He makes quick decisions and limits his mistakes as a ball-handler. Ford is deserving of the interest he has gained from various programs and should carry some momentum from June into next week’s live period.
F Omarion Bodrick (Independence)- It wasn’t Bodrick’s scoring that stood out when I watched Independence on Sunday, but instead his contributions in other areas. He was a beast rebounder, collecting 15 boards in a victory over Forest Hills. Bodrick was extremely active on the offensive glass; it seemed like he was flying in on every shot in attempt to give his team a second opportunity. He grabbed traffic rebounds on both ends, elevating and extending among bodies to secure the ball. I was also very impressed with his passing ability. Bodrick was really unselfish and showed nice vision out of the post, hitting teammates for open looks often. He came through on offense when his team needed it most, converting on a contact layup in sudden death to end the game. Bodrick’s length, athleticism and defensive ability scream potential and he already has a good set of skills to build upon.
F Hunter Sloop (Mount Pleasant)- Sloop didn’t have a great scoring performance in the game I saw, but he showed a lot of potential and impressed with his versatility. He has a mature body that can take hits and proved to be difficult to move. Sloop uses his physical attributes to rebound and create matchup problems for opponents. He is a player who can play the 3 or 4, has a confident outside shot, and is capable of putting the ball on the floor. Sloop is a solid passer and showed some nice instincts on the defensive end as well. He has already caught the attention of some MM programs and should continue to attract more schools. His Loaded NC 2021 team is one to watch this month.
