College coaches will be watching kids from different classes. Of course, the 2020 class has to be put together first, but don’t think coaches will overlook the 2021 class that’s heavy with talented players from the top to bottom.
The state of Tennessee’s portion of the 2021 class features an aura of guards and most should be at a Division I program once their high school basketball careers are over. I’m still getting around watching the 2021 class, in hopes of running into some more kids, so be patient with me.
As of right now, I have listed seven players from the 2021 class that people should watch this weekend.
Here are the seven:
Kennedy Chandler, Mokan Elite 17U: The 6-foot-1 point guard has had a solid summer and has racked up plenty of offers in the process. Chandler will be leading his AAU team into the Peach Jam, with tons of eyes on him. When everyone’s watching, Chandler plays his best.
Grant Hurst, WHBH 16U: Hurst’s strength of solid court vision makes him a solid guard in the 2021 class. He can affect the game without being the team’s leading scorer. Hurst showed flashes of that during the Hoopseen Atlanta Jam back in May. He has picked up interests from Navy, UT-Chattanooga, Stetson, Appalachian State, Lipscomb, Denver, Kennesaw State, Penn, James Madison, Tennessee Tech and Belmont.
Tony Farrar, WHBH 16U: Farrar is finally at full strength and will look to put on a strong outing at the Best of the South AAU Tournament in Atlanta, Georgia. Farrar’s strength is slashing to the rim. The 5-11 point guard will have Wichita State, Gardner Webb and Murray State in town to see him play. Farrar has been waiting on this moment, so it’s game time.
Reese McMullen, Hoop City 16U: McMullen is one of the top shooters in the 2021 class. He has a quick release where it’s difficult to block his shot. On a good day, McMullen could make 10 3s in a game. On a bad day with his shooting ability, he could still knock down six shots from deep. McMullen’s ball handling has improved. He has been in the gym all summer working to improve his overall game. Schools such as Davidson, Liberty, Lipscomb, Belmont and Holy Cross have been on McMullen’s radar and a great outing in Birmingham, Alabama could give the 6-2 guard an offer or two, maybe three.
Kameron Jones, Team Thad 16U: This summer has been Jones’ coming out party sort of speak. He has blossomed into a mid-major Division I basketball player, with offers from Tennessee Tech, South Alabama and Troy, and he hasn’t reached his ceiling yet, which is scary. The 6-3 point guard can affect the game with his scoring and passing. Jones is a left-handed jump shooter and has handles that will make his defenders dance.
Mason Miller, Hoop City 16U: The 6-8 ½ forward presents a matchup problem because of his ability to score from different areas on the court. Miller knows how to finish at the rim. He has bounce. Miller just needs to post up more and not settle for so many outside shots. He has offers from Memphis, TCU, Creighton and Florida.
T.J. Madlock, Hoop City 16U: Madlock is one of the smartest point guards in this class. He knows how to control the tempo of a game. That alone will land him at a Division I program. Madlock has yet to pick up an offer, but has received plenty of interests from mid-major programs. With a great outing this weekend, his stock could rise.
