Players from Louisiana will be attending the south regional at the University of Houston. We will preview the players attending session I and highlight what coaches might like about each player.
2020 Participants:
Taevon Anderson (6’4″) – Oak Grove
Branthony Brown (6’4″) – Lakeside
Kalep Crane (6’1″) – Simsboro
Billy Francis (6’2″) – Lafayette Christian
Damon (DJ) Morton (6’3″) – University Lab
Gavin Smith (6’2″) – Anacoco
Carvell Teasett (6’1″) – Scotlandville Magnet (pictured above)
Brayden Thompson (6’5″) – Airline
Kenneth (Salle) Wilson (6’4″) – Dunham
Among this group of wings and forwards are ball players who can each do multiple things. Anderson and Morton are two of the most explosive wings that we have in the state. Each player can do a myriad of things on the floor defensively and offensively. Brown and Thompson often have to play with their backs to the basket but have worked on their perimeter games. Thompson has really worked on his ability to face up and create advantageous situations for himself that way. Wilson is a wing who likes to take players off the dribble. He attacks the basket more times than not and usually finishes at the rim.
The 2020 shooters during this session are some of the best I have seen all summer. Crane is the guard who attacks off the dribble more than the others but he can light it up from three. When he puts his head down and gets in the lane, good things happen more times than not. Francis and Smith have shot the lights out during the games and team camps where I have seen them. Smith also has a deceptive game off the dribble as well and can create his own shot. Teasett shot the ball very well during UAA play and was one of the reasons why Louisiana Elite made the UAA quarterfinals.
This group is very distinguished as they have roughly eight state championships between them. None of the players in this group should be afraid of this setting because they have been under the brightest lights in Louisiana before.
2021 Participants:
Jase Augustus (6’2″) – Dunham
Ryan Elzy (6’1″) – Ponchatoula (pictured above by Ponny Photo)
Cullen Hamilton (6’1″) – Westlake
The 2021 group consist of one young gunner and two guys that know how to dish the rock. Augustus is a deep threat that will be asked to step up into more of a scoring role this season. Hamilton and Elzy make their high school teams go. They are guards who drive and distribute at a high level. Elzy is also a good defender and makes solid defensive plays all over the halfcourt. These three will be looking to make an impression as more than role players during game play on Tuesday.
Drills begin at 8 AM for all players and game play begins in the afternoon at 2:20. Look for all of these players to have success when they step on the floor on Tuesday.
