17U: Kingdom Hoops Navy 60 vs WOTN 58
This, like many of the Kingdom Hoops 17u games we’ve seen this offseason, was the Hosea Treadwell show. The unsigned Hoover graduate (2019) is playing very well this offseason. Yes, he’s doing so against guys a year younger than him, but he’s been outstanding nonetheless. In this game, not only did he hit a game-winning floater at the buzzer, but he put in a full-court make to beat the first half buzzer, too. That’s two A-1 buzzer beaters in one game. Treadwell finished with a team-high 14 points. Another former Husky, 2019 graduate Adam Jackson put in 13 points.
Keyton Moser
17U: Iowa Barnstormers West 63 vs Kingdom Hoops Red 56
This was the first time we’ve seen the Iowa Barnstormers West squad play, and they put on quite the show. After going up one into halftime, the ‘Stormers found themselves down double-digits in the second half. Then they deployed a full-court press, and it caused a lot of problems for the Kingdom Hoops squad. The 12 point lead was soon vanquished, and the ‘Stormers, led by Boyden-Hull guard Keyton Moser, would go on to win the game by a comfortable margin. The intensity was there for the ‘Stormers, and that’s what the difference was here. Moser led the Barnstormers with 14 points. For Kingdom Hoops, it was Dowling rising senior Joe Strako who was utterly impressive, he scored a game-high 22 points.
16U: Iowa Barnstormers Black 60 vs Team Factory Black 42
It was an Illinois guy who was the superstar for the Iowa squad in this one. Kewanee Wethersfield’s Colton Quagliano canned four first half 3s, five in the game and scored a game-high 24 points in the Stomers’ rout of a pretty good Team Factory unit. Burlington point guard Michael Alexander was also impressive in the win, he scored nine points, but it was his passing and leadership on the floor that made the most impact. Two of Iowa’s best Class of 2022 guys are playing up with this Barnstormers squad this weekend, that’s Cedar Falls’ Trey Campbell and Iowa City West’s Christian Barnes. They combined for 11 points in the convincing win.
Jaxon Heth
17U: Iowa Mavericks 60 vs Minnesota Heat 45
The Mavericks were sharp in this one, they came out red-hot, and really never let up in the wire-to-wire win over the Minnesota squad. It was Cedar Falls guard Jaxon Heth that set the tone early, he was letting them fly from deep and they were dropping with regularity, barely even hitting the next they were so pure. Heth scored a co-game-high 14. Lucas Hayes, a Bettendorf big-man was outstanding around the rim, he scored 13 points. Linn-Mar’s John Steffen did some impressive things while showing off his speed and athleticism, he scored 14. Caleb Delzell, a versatile and heady 6’7 forward, was doing a little bit of everything to help the Mavs win. If this Mavericks team can play like this all weekend, they’ll make a deep run in this 17u field.
