The promising showdown of standouts did not disappoint for even a second. From tip-to-finish, the game was full of energy, big plays, and scoring. Trading scores all afternoon, the inter-squad contenders found themselves exchanging leads on each consequent possession in the closing minutes of the game. At the end of the day, tenure and deceit favored the older squad, who would claim the championship by a margin of five, 78-73. The players below earned the MVP awards from the game.
Sean Pedulla 2021 Edmond Memorial point guard
I would rarely declare the most valuable player in any game was on the losing team, but yesterday was the exception to that ideal. Pedulla scored 32 points on six 3-pointers in the narrow loss and was near-unstoppable on the offensive end of the floor. The key to his game was his rapid-fire release. When he gets in his zone, he’s untouchable by defenders. As one spectator noted, it was “bombs away” in Fort Worth. Still, Pedulla was far from a one-trick-pony. He passed and rebounded the ball really well, also, and shut a lot of the noise that he’s “too small” to succeed at the next level.
Jordan Thompson 2020 Southmoore point guard
At the beginning of the summer, Jordan Thompson was a bit of a head-scratcher in terms of his nomenclature. Is he a true point guard, or is he more of a shooting guard? If you wanted any better example of why Thompson fits as an on-ball scorer, Sunday afternoon was as good as it gets. Thompson was dishing the ball down-floor with elite precision, slashing through the defense, locking up scorers and hitting the 3-ball out of the dribble. Thompson is easily one of the brightest shooting prospects in the incoming Oklahoma senior class and he proved his worth on the biggest stage Sunday.
