Kyler Vanderjagt has done this and has used the grassroots season as a showcase for his talent. He’s an athletic 6’3″ shooting guard. Vanderjagt is a playmaker that can get buckets. He attends Northview High School and has played grassroots basketball with Legacy Elite. He now plays with the GR Storm in the UA Circuit. Vanderjagt is a player from the class of 2022 that coaches and scouts need to be sure to see. We recently caught up with him to discuss his game, his goals, and more.
Question:
What is the biggest strength in your game?
Kyler Vanderjagt:
My ability to score the ball in a variety of ways including jump shooting and creatively beating defenders to finish around the basket.
Question:
How do you feel you’ve improved this summer?
Kyler Vanderjagt:
I have really improved a lot on the defensive side of the ball; my on ball and off the ball defense.
Question:
What has been your biggest moment in basketball?
Kyler Vanderjagt:
Biggest moment came in the district championship game vs 22-0 FHN as a freshman. I hit a double clutch 3 pointer with 2 defenders guarding me as time expired to force it to OT. We ended up winning the ball game.
Question:
Is there added pressure playing in front of college coaches?
Kyler Vanderjagt:
Yes, but it’s “good“ pressure which motivates me to give it my all on the court.
Question:
What are your goals for the rest of the summer?
Kyler Vanderjagt:
Keep improving and playing consistently above the rim. Also to gain some attention from a lot of coaches.
Question:
What professional players game reminds you of your own?
Kyler Vanderjagt:
RJ Barrett. I can get to the basket at will and I shoot the 3 ball at a higher percentage.
Question:
Who’s the toughest player that you’ve ever matched up with?
Kyler Vanderjagt:
Jalen Duran. His size and he is great rim protector with good timing.
Question:
What’s your favorite thing to do in the summer, besides basketball?
Kyler Vanderjagt:
I love fishing and golfing.
