Here are some prospects that made a lasting impression on me.
Kario Oquendo (Team Parsons)
One of the hardest dunkers and all-around high motor players, 2020 6’4″ guard Kario Oquendo was superb on Saturday in a win over Pro Holmes. He was hitting key shots from deep, attacking per usual and getting out on the break. With offers from TCU, Mercer, USF, Wake Forest, FGCU, FAU and UNF, the market will continue to surge for Oquendo. It remains to be seen where he’ll play during his senior season, but for now, he has a huge opportunity this week in Atlanta at The Best Of The South.
Ahmad Johnson (Pro Holmes)
Now a 2020 prospect, 6’3″ guard Ahmad Johnson will play this fall at Pro Holmes post grad in Tampa. He was a standout for a Charlotte program that will still be a tough out down in the Fort Myers area. Johnson is running with Pro Holmes AAU team and on Saturday, he was everything and more for his side in a close loss to a Team Parsons 17U squad. It wasn’t the full Parsons team, but regardless there are a lot of Division I athletes on that side and Johnson proved he belonged often. He was scoring at will inside at times and getting to the mid-range spot and hitting.
Kanye Jones (Team Parsons)
Continuing to get better each time I see him, 2021 6’4″ Windermere guard Kanye Jones is quite the elusive athlete. For a Team Parsons 16U mix team, he was active on both ends and a player that thrives as an attacker. Jones has really impressive footwork and his craftiness allows him to get baskets in tough areas down low (VIDEO at the end of the story proves it). Look for him to thrive this fall and boost his stock more as he tacks on more muscle and confidence.
Ameer Ramadan & Alan Prameshuber (Team Parsons)
On a Team Parsons 15U mix squad that consisted of mainly 2023 athletes playing up, there were two really steady pieces that stood out. 2024 5’9″ guard Ameer Ramadan was flat out hurting the CFL Rising Stars defense with his outside shot and advanced ballhandling. He’s currently homeschooled, but the Parsons coaching staff tells me he’ll be at Orlando Christian Prep here in two years when he’s a freshman. Another piece that impressed me was 2023 6’3″ guard Alan Prameshuber. The high IQ passer and driver will play at Providence this season under longtime coach Jim Martin. Prameshuber is quite the decision maker and is someone who I can see blowing up if he continues to work on his craft over the next year. His brother Alec will play alongside him at Providence this fall.
Tre Carroll (Team Parsons SWFL)
At 6’7″, there was quite the advantage for 2021 Charlotte guard/forward Tre Carroll against a smaller Rock United 16U team. Carroll was routinely getting too comfortable spots inside on his own or off quick feeds and going to work in the post, playing for Team Parsons SWFL. A very developed shooter and high energy attacker and dunker, this is a player who continues to improve every time I watch him. Carroll has an offer from FGCU as of now.
Alston Andrews (Gamespeed Elite)
It is good to see 2020 6’7″ Ocoee forward Alston Andrews back healthy again. Missing nearly all of his junior season due to injury, the lengthy and versatile athlete is having a very steady summer. Andrews was making things happen on the boards and on putbacks for GameSpeed Elite against Rock United 17U. Ocoee is getting a major piece back in Andrews and if he can develop some more, it should be a fun year for the Knights.
