The state of Georgia has plenty of talent and some prospects are certainly better then others. With the live period approaching, I took the time to list a couple prospects in the state that college coaches and scouts should try and take a look at during the period.
2020 F Melvin Edwards Jr. of Carrollton High School – After impressing during the NCAA Georgia June live period, Melvin Edwards Jr. caught my eye and the eyes of many other college coaches and scouts. Since then, the rising senior has earned offers from UNC Wilmington, Tennessee State, and Tennessee-Chattanooga. He stands at 6-foot-6 and holds a solid physical profile with gifted athleticism. Edwards Jr. has the right body for a 3-and-D wing and is a high level mid-major prospect. Melvin is a powerful finisher at the rim and can also knock down jumpers from beyond the arc. He will be running with Team Forrest out of Atlanta, a non-shoe sponsored program.
2020 PG Kasen Jennings of The Heritage School pictured – Kasen Jennings has been one of my favorite under-the-radar prospects that I have been bragging about for almost a year now. He holds offers and interest from schools like Arkansas Little Rock, Southeastern Louisiana, Kennesaw State, Western Carolina, Lipscomb, Gardner-Webb, Auburn, and others. He is a 6-foot-3 point guard who has the skill sets to score and also run an offense. He is a reliable shot maker, plays with toughness, and has that downhill and in between game that a point guard should hold. Kasen will be running with Atlanta Xpress in Under Armour Finals.
2020 W Terrance Edwards of Tucker High School – After sitting out most of his junior campaign at Southwest Dekalb High School, the rising senior has been trying to make up that time through the AAU season. Edward’s recent offer is from Arkansas Little Rock, where he earned at the 2019 NCAA Georgia team camp. Terrance stands at 6-foot-6 with a slim body frame and somewhat long arms. If you are looking for toughness and a playmaker on both ends, he is your guy. Terrance plays with a high motor and is a high level competitor when he is on the floor. He can score inside the paint and on the perimeter and could be known as an underrated passer. He will be running with Bluff City Legends (TN), a Nike EYBL sponsored program.
2020 F Colin Granger of Lambert High School – Schools like Indiana State, Southern Illinois, Ohio, and UNC Asheville have offered the 6-foot-8 forward Colin Granger recently. He is an interesting prospect and a high mid major prospect college coaches in the MAC, CAA, Sun Belt, Atlantic 10, and other mid major level conference coaches should keep an eye on. Granger has solid footwork and mobility for a player his size. His game shows some shade of Kevin Love, with his body type and versatility on the floor. Colin can play as an undersized five or play his position as a stretch four in some cases. He will be running with Game Elite JB, an Adidas sponsored program out of Georgia, during the month of July.
2020 PG Eric Gaines of Lithonia High School – After being out for half of the spring season of the AAU circuit this year with Team United (NC), Eric Gaines will look to catch college coaches’s eyes during the July live period. The 6-foot-2 point guard started off his AAU season with a bang before suffering his injury. Back in May, Gaines was a standout player in the Nike EYBL’s first session in Atlanta. He is a flashy, acrobatic point guard with gifted athleticism at his position. He does have a slim body frame but he is one of the most explosive prospects in the state. Eric has the ability to score the ball and make nice reads by making plays for others. He is an extremely bouncy point guard and will make those “wow” plays in transition or even in the half court if he gets the chance.
