Holt Bashinsky (Pro One)- I quickly became a fan of Bashinsky’s in May when I first watched him in Spartanburg. He is exactly what you would expect a Mountain Brook and Pro One player to be, and seems to have added more to his game over the last month and a half. A high-level shooter who can impact the game in a variety of ways, Bashinsky does the things you need to win and does so with limited mistakes. He made even more of an effort to attack the basket and finish through contact at the UAA Finals than when I saw him in May, and made some of his usual scrappy hustle plays. Bashinsky uses his outside shot to set up other parts of his offensive game, and while he is a capable ball-handler, he does not overdo things with the ball. His productive, winning style is rare and something that college coaches desire.
DayDay Hall (Dallas Showtyme)- When I watched Showtyme last Friday, they got an impressive win over a Mid Atlantic Select group with numerous prospects who are getting lots of attention. Hall set the tone with his energy early and his motor didn’t slow down as the game went on. Listed at just 6’5”, Hall had no issue going up and through bigger MAS defenders on both ends. He looks to explode to the rim with exceptional two-foot leaping ability, as well as fighting for tough rebounds in between bodies. He ended the game with a double-double and left college coaches wanting to know more about him and see him again. Hall is a guy that you can throw in there just about any situation and he’ll produce because of his energy and activity.
Breon Pass (Team CP3 2021)- Already a hot football recruit, Pass is no slouch on the hardwood and helped his hoops recruitment last week as well. In an E16 Peach Jam game that was filled with coaches, Pass put together a great performance CP3’s victory against the Georgia Stars, leading with 20 points. Pass brought great energy and confidence on both ends, using his athletic ability on defense and then on offense in transition opportunities. A spurt he had in the 2nd half of the game where he connected on multiple 3’s and inside finishes was crucial in CP3 pulling away from the Stars late. His combination of speed and skill paired with CP3’s other reliable guards proved to be too much for the Stars to handle for an entire game. This was one of the more entertaining games I watched last week and Pass was a big reason why.
Quincy Ademokoya (Georgia Stars 2021)- Ademokoya was receiving considerable attention as a 2020 prospect; his recruitment should see an uptick with him now being a part of the 2021 class. A shooter with size at 6’6”, Ademokoya has a soft, accurate shot that he is very confident in. In both Stars’ games I watched in Augusta, he went on hot streaks from deep that were a huge boost to his team. However, what impressed me most with Ademokoya’s play last week was separate from shooting. I thought he was playing with an elevated sense of urgency and intensity, giving nice effort in both games. He looked to contribute in other areas frequently, slashing for dunks and traffic finishes, along with crashing the offensive glass hard. Continuing to display this type of approach will help him immensely in the upcoming year.
Kennedy Miles & Zach Shumate (PSB Elite)- The PSB team enjoyed a really good season throughout the spring and summer and they have lots of guys receiving hefty recruitment. With that being said, I feel like Miles and Shumate both deserve to see their recruitments take a jump going forward. In the game I watched against Philly Pride, they both had lots of coaches talking and complimenting their play. Miles is a strong, athletic guard who gets downhill very well. In the Pride game, he was almost too unselfish, constantly trying to find guys once he penetrated and drew defenders. He is an exceptional rebounder for a PG and can score when called upon. Shumate was a new member to the team but it didn’t take him long to step right in and contribute. He has a solid body that can create space and get him good position inside. Shumate has a well-rounded set of skills for a forward, showing touch, mid-range skill, and fundamentals in the post. He scored an efficient 14 points in that particular game, showing those different parts to his game quite well.
