Johnson Commits to Duke
Arguably the best player to come out of the state of Wisconsin in the recruiting rankings era has made his decision.
Taking his talents to the ACC, Milwaukee (Wis.) Nicolet 2020 point forward Jalen Johnson announced his commitment to Duke on Thursday.
Johnson chose the Blue Devils over his other finalists Arizona, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. The five-star prospect also held offers from Florida, Georgetown, Kansas, LSU, Marquette, Ohio State, UCLA, Purdue, and more.
As a junior, Johnson was named the Gatorade State Player of the Year, averaging 20.2 points, 11.1 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 2.5 steals per game while leading the Knights to the Division 2 state championship.
According to the 247sports composite and Prep Hoops, Johnson is the nation’s fourth-ranked player in the 2020 class, making him the highest-ranked prospect to come out of the Badger State in the recruiting rankings era. Johnson is just the sixth consensus five-star talent to come out of Wisconsin, joining Henry Ellenson (Rice Lake/Marquette), Diamond Stone (Dominican/Maryland), Kevon Looney (Milwaukee Hamilton/UCLA), Sam Dekker (Sheboygan Lutheran/Wisconsin), Brian Butch (Appleton West/Wisconsin)
Duke’s 2020 recruiting class now has two members, including Jeremy Roach (Fairfax, Va.).
