Jaylon Wooten @PrepHoopsTN Summer Combine Recapture
Jaylon Wooten (Coffee County) traveled from middle Tennessee. It was a great surprise to see the budding high school superstar. Wooten is ready to earn All-District.

NBA Stylistic Comparison: 2009 Pistons Tayshaun Prince
College Projection: Division II.
Standing 6-foot-5, Jaylon Wooten is college-ready with his height for position. His frame needs more weight, more heft though. Look for Wooten to draw more college interest and offers when that happens. His skills and size are too good to pass up.
In June, I watched nobody more than Wooten. His game is at once intriguing and frustrating for the shortcomings that exist. First, the concerns. Wooten is not invested defensively on most summer possessions. I didn’t watch Wooten back during the 2018-2019 season and the year prior he was a high energy-infuser off the bench for Blackman High. He now competes with Coffee County High and his summer league defense was lackluster during Oakland High Team Camp. Wooten looked either bored or lazy. Hopefully that is a reflection of the relative unimportance of the game. Hopefully.
Jaylan Wooten is a leader on his team and an fantastic All-District, possibly All-Region performer. He can’t take plays off at either end this senior year. Wooten’s motor is fine on offense. Defensively, he needs to invest the same.
Speed is a great asset of Wooten. He burned to a 12.24 time in the lane agility. Shaving just a half second off that puts him in range with NBA forwards. Better than just fast, Wooten can change directions well. He plays at alternating speeds and keeps defenders unsteady.
Wooten is a versatile attacker capable of hitting shots off the dribble or getting all the way to the basket. He is tough mentally and would be even tougher physically with more weight. Large, college bigs will knock him around a bit if he maintains his current size. He should be playing at 185-190 pounds.
Ball-handling is wonderful. Beyond that Wooten sees the floor well and makes mostly clever decisions quickly. His only weakness offensively is the occasional turnover. Wooten spots the right pass, but then makes it too gingerly…sometimes. Wooten needs to be better with post feeds in general and using bounce passes in specific. His willingness to move the point of attack is fantastic. Wooten might be a D’Angelo Russell type player that can serve as the ideal combo guard this season.
The ceiling is indecipherable, but certainly high for Jaylon Wooten. Keep him on the radar for small to mid-size college programs.
