MVP: Jalen Page Colorado Titans 2020 – I hadn’t been overly impressed by Page in the last couple of weeks, and then in an instant he validated why he is such a highly regarded player in Colorado. He showed off his skill set on Sunday, scoring on post ups, put-backs and dribble drives. He’s a versatile defender that plays P&R defense well, and is easily able to switch 1 through 4. Where he won me over was with his heart and competitive spirit. Paige placed his stamp on the title game. He was all over the floor in the last four minutes, hitting lead changing buckets, knocking down clutch free throws, and grabbing out of area rebounds.
Ricky Lujan New Mexico D1 Ambassadors 2020 – Lajan showed why several D1 schools are interested in him. He is the prototypical point guard for today’s college game. The 6’1 point guard can shoot it, has a great handle, and is extremely athletic. He was huge down the stretch most games, and almost carried the Ambassadors to the Championship, losing a heartbreaking 2 point game to Colorado Gold. He needs to get a little stronger, and refine his P&R reads, however he is already a solid D1 prospect, who could have a great collegiate career at the right school.
Nick Bowden Los Angeles Elite Hollingsworth 2020 – Bowden ran the show for LA Elite. The 6’0 point man is ultra competitive, and played with a chip on his shoulder all week. He played a lot of P&R basketball and made the right reads nearly every time. He has a good understanding of how to change speeds to keep defenders off balance.
Sal Naverez New Mexico D1 Ambassadors 2020 – The 6’5 Naverez was an absolute beast all week. Playing the role of undersized 5 man, “Big Sal” carved out space down low. He showed excellent footwork and a nice set of right and left hand jump hooks. He was an offensive rebounding machine grabbing both in and out of area boards.
Owen Kuntz Colorado Titans Gold 2020 – Kuntz is a player that’s going to make some school very happy. I’m not sure if he’s a large 3 or an undersized 4, however I do know he is a player. The 6’5 Kuntz has a nice mid–range and post-up game. He is a very good athlete and gets several baskets off designed lob plays, and offensive rebounds. He can stretch the floor out to the 3, but needs a little more consistency with his shot. Defensively he did a good job of switching ball screens, and keeping guards in front.
Tanner Poeschl The Legion of Hoops 2020 – Poeschl really stood out. He’s a long and lanky, high energy guy with good hands. He catches and finishes in transition well. Poeschl is a driver first, but did show the ability to knock down the occasional 15 footer. Extremely active on both the offensive and defensive glass, he is also a willing and capable rim protector.
