Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several players who raised their profile with strong performances on Saturday.
5-Quenton Mason, 5’10, G, 2021, KC Premiere Blue Chips 16U (pictured)
Mason plays strong defense and stays with his man. He keeps his eyes on the play and looks to push the ball up the floor and get his teammates easy looks. He has great vision and is good at passing ahead to teammates who are running the lane and looking for an easy bucket.
2 — Harrison Braudis, 6’0, G, 2021, Bishop Miege, MoKan 2021
Braudis is a smooth point guard who plays the game with a lot of confidence. He is a willing passer who looks to set up his teammates and get everyone involved. A talented athlete, Braudis can surprise opponents with his hops and ability to play above the rim. He can grab a defensive rebound, take the ball coast-to-coast and can finish around the basket over bigger defenders.
55 — Jack Hutchinson, G, 2021, Topeka Hayden, SSA Elite Black 16U
Hutchinson has earned a reputation as one of the state’s top shooters in the rising junior class, armed with a smooth, repeatable shooting stroke that featuers good balance and a quick release. He has worked hard to expand his game and become an all-around player and can handle the ball and has a nice mid-range game, able to pull up off the dribble and knock down shots.
10 — Kyun Jackson, 6’3, G, 2021, KS, Showtine 16U
Jackson showed why he is a tough match-up for opponents this weekend as he helped Showtime go undefeated in pool play. He has good size for a guard and likes to take advantage of mismatches by taking smaller guards to the post. He has some good moves in the paint and has a nice feel for scoring around the basket. Jackson is a good passer with good court vision and can see over the top of a defense and make the right pass.
00 — Andrew Orr, F/C, 2021, MoKan 2021
One of the state’s most improved players in the rising junior class, Orr is nnown for his inside play, but showed off some perimeter skills on Saturday in MoKan’s first contest against the Colorado Chaos. He put the ball on the floor and attacked the basket several times and got to the free throw line. He often had his way in the post against the smaller Chaos squad and at 6’8, he uses his size well, showing good footwork and a soft touch in the lane.
