Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the tournament’s best outside shooters from the Kansas side.
30 — TJ Fritz, 6’3, G, 2020, Sunrise, Carroll GoLive
A smooth guard with a quick, left handed shooting stroke, Fritz has reclassified and will attend Sunrise this upcoming year after putting together a strong season at Wamego this past season. He was a standout at both the Hardwood and at the Sunflower Showcase this past weekend, showing good size, agility and all-around game. He has a good feel for passing the ball, can get to the basket well off the bounce and is a creative finisher.
15 — Spencer Bain, 6’2, G, 2020, Blue Valley West, MoKan EYBL
Bain helped give a young MoKan 2021 team some much needed experience as the 16U team played up an age group and won’t the 17U championship. Armed with good size, strength and the ability to play either guard spot, Bain showed off a smooth outside shooting stroke throughout the weekend. He also showed that shooting stroke off Friday night as he won the tournament’s 3-point contest.
15 — Travis Beetch, 6’3, G, 2020, Abilene, SSA Elite Black
Beetch brings energy and the ability to quickly put points on the board for SSA Elite Black. He is a standout 3-point shooter with a quick release and the ability to knock down shots consistently out of the corner. Beetch is a crafty ball handler is can get to the basket in the open floor and is a strong finisher around the basket.
6 — Jaden McGrath, 5’11, G, 2020, Independence, Kansas Pray N Play
McGrath will be one of the state’s premier shooters this upcoming season and combines a quick release and a smooth shooting stroke. He is a strong, physical player who can play some defense, passes the ball well and is a smart, high IQ basketball player who makes the right play. McGrath is an underrated defensive player who uses his size and strength to his advantage.
5 — Peyton Weixelman, 6’0, G, 2020, Manhattan, SSA Elite Black
Weixelman impressed this weekend with his calm, steady play, bringing leadership and solid ball handling to the floor. He is a good passer, capable of finding the open man and is a strong outside shooter.
