The shoe circuits and major tournament events for the grassroots season are almost coming to an end with it being the end of July.
USA Basketball will host another mini camp coming next week and this will be the last mini camp until early October before the high school season gets going. Those Georgia boys will once again be well represented out there in Colorado Springs. 2020 PG Sharife Cooper of McEachern High School, 2020 C Walker Kessler of Woodward Academy, 2021 F Matthew Cleveland of Pace Academy, 2021 F Jabari Smith Jr. of Sandy Creek High School, and 2022 PG Sterling “Scoota” Henderson of Kell High School will be the Georgia prospects representing this go round.
The AAU season has already ended for prospects like Sharife Cooper, after losing in the elite 8 round with Nike EYBL AOT Running Rebels at this year’s Nike Peach Jam event. Rising junior Matthew Cleveland had himself a breakout year this grassroots season, earning offers from a plethora of high major programs. 2022 PG Sterling Henderson, or otherwise known as Scoota, is just getting on board with the somewhat national recognition. Prospects like Kessler and Smith Jr. have held their ground as well this grassroots season.
Cooper, Kessler, and Smith Jr. will not be new to the USA Basketball settings as all three have participated in USA events in the past. Jabari recently won himself a gold medal back in June with the USA U16 National Team in Brazil. For Cleveland and Henderson, they will be new to the USA Basketball scene next week as it is their first appearance. Pace Academy head coach Sharman White will once again be one of the coaches leading drills, scrimmages, and more.
