Under-the-Radar Guards (Part I)
Donovan Saunders, 2022, Cathedral Catholic
Saunders plays high school ball on Cathedral Catholic squad loaded with 2021 talent, but his play over the weekend showed that he’s a guy who could work his way into major minutes next season. Saunders has good size and length at 6-feet-3 and uses that to his advantage when extending to the rim and finishing in transition. The rising sophomore has impressive feel with the ball in his hands and can knock down the open perimeter jumper.
Sophomore-to-be Donovan Saunders showed that he could become a strong piece to a loaded Cathedral Catholic squad.Gabe Reichle, 2020, Wilsonville (OR)
Reichle is the younger brother of Oregon State guard Zach Reichle, but has a little different game. Gabe thrives in transition where he can use his athleticism to get downhill and finish through or over contact with this strength and athleticism. Reichle has the ability to knock down an open catch-and-shoot 3-pointer given time and space.
Luke Powell, 2020, Capistrano Valley Christian
Powell earned a spot in the Top 60 game by simply playing hard. The 6-foot-2 lefty had a field day on the offensive glass by outworking and overpowering opponents in the painted area. Powell also showed the ability to put pressure on the rim with the drive-and-kick or pull-up mid-range jumper.
Everett May, 2021, Los Alamitos
The Los Alamitos high school product continues to sprout upwards, now standing at a legitimate 6-5 pushing 6-6. May is obviously as smooth of a shooter as they come, but the junior-to-be showed a nice baby hook when swinging across the lane.
Jarred Jones, 2020, Warren
Jones has a dynamic shot creating and making ability with his shiftiness in space and strong first step. The rising senior can get to the front of the rim at-will or stop and pop at the 15 to 17 foot range. Jones has good size at 6-3 to go along with a rangy and strong frame.
