The best of the best from around the EYBL are going at it down south, and the games I watched were great.
Prospects:
• Donavan Johnson (6’7” / WG 2020 / All-Ohio Red): Johnson was a major rebounder from the wing position. Worked well on the boards and created second chance opportunities for his squad. Can shoot it from distance with a lefty-release that is often on target. Ball handler that has no problem getting to the rack and scoring two. Johnson was All-Ohio’s best player, and you can see why high majors are all over him.
• Ben fort (6’6” / WG 2020 / All-Ohio Red): Ben Fort gave some solid minutes when he subbed in. Playing the passing lane well, created turnovers and could handle the ball. Plays fast with the ball in his hands at times. Solid through the lane where he could either finish or kick out for the open jumper. I liked the energy that Fort was bringing.
• Javohn Garcia (6’2” / G 2020 / All-Ohio Red): Garcia is crafty with the ball in his hands and showed his scoring ability from the guard spot. Knocking down threes, off-the-dribble mid-range jumpers and getting to the hoop were all working for Javohn. Played hard on both ends, and didn’t shy away from any contact. Garcia’s matchup with Devin Askew was a fun one.
• Jalen Green (6’6” / G 2020 / Team WhyNot): Jalen Green is a top five prospect and you get that feel when watching. Quick on defense and often creates transition buckets. Green is dangerous off the bounce where he finishes tough at the rim. Scores at a high clip from all over, versatile defender.
• Devin Askew (6’3” / PG 2020 / Team WhyNot): Askew is a nifty ball handler that was able to change directions quickly. Wasn’t easy for the defender to stay with as he is always on 100% go. You can definitely see why Askew is a top 20 player in the 2021 class. He had a smooth stop and pop going from mid-range, and finished at the basket with ease.
• Isaiah Todd (6’10” / PF 2020 / Nightrydas Elite): Maybe the most impressive prospect I watched overall of the future. The 6-10 Todd is a force that affects the game in many ways. On defense, a shot blocker who can swat them at a high clip and makes it tough for the opposition. Wasn’t his highest of scoring games but Todd showed ability to stretch the floor and an inside game. Can handle the ball and runs the floor with ease. Coach Calipari of Kentucky checked out Isaiah early Thursday and has made him a priority.
• Dudley Blackwell (6’6” / WG 2020 / Nightrydas Elite): Blackwell was the best scoring option for Nightrydas when I viewed them. Knocking down shots from deep was a common occurrence. Blackwell can find open teammates, and works off the bounce too. Solid defender that can play aggressive and makes those winning plays you want to see. Automatic from the free-throw line when he got there as well.
