The Spartans and EBA both secured wins to improve their records to 3-0, while the Falcons and Cobras both picked up their first wins of the season. The short-handed Pointers came out with a solid victory over the Wolfpack to earn their second-straight win.
Player of the Night:
Crevonte Adams | 6’4 | Pointers ’20
The Pointers were missing a few key bigs, so Adams had to man down the painted area. He did so successfully and recorded a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. The 6-foot-4 forwards didn’t just score in the paint, he knocked down shots from the mid-range and three-point areas as well. Defensively, he disrupted shots and rebounded aggressively. He was a key part behind the Pointers’ come from behind win.
Here were some more standouts from Wednesday night’s lineup:
Peyton Conn | 5’8 | Pointers ’20
Conn scored a game-high 16 points and went on a run of his own in the second half to lead the Pointers to a win. The 5-foot-8 lefty was nailed four three-pointers and had a few nice paint touches that ended with a soft floater. Conn did a nice job finding teammates in transition and throwing advance passes that led to easy looks.
Walter Carr | 6’0 | Wolfpack ’21
Carr was a consistent scorer throughout for the Wolfpack as he scored 15 points. The 6-foot guard converted on three three’s and finished well in transition. Carr was aggressive defensively. In some cases it helped, but he was in foul trouble and ended the game with four fouls.
Malik Scipio | 6’2 | Falcons ’21
Scipio has been asserting himself as the main cog for the Falcons. The 6-foot-2 brute guard is a solid scoring option from all three levels. He handles the ball well and can create his own looks. Scipio led the Falcons to their first win with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Taylor Hickey | 5’8 | Falcons ’23
Hickey will be a freshman to watch in the area this year. The 5-foot-8 is a sniper from deep. Nine of his 13 points in this week’s match up came from beyond the arc. Even though he’s usually the smallest player on the court, Hickey crashes the glass hard. He pulled down seven rebounds in this game.
Marlon Lewis | 6’4 | Spartans ’21
Lewis has been a standout all three weeks and again this week as he led the Spartans with 13 points. Lewis had his usual poster dunks, but this week two of them came off of put-backs.
Nigel Pearson | 6’1 | Spartans ’22
Pearson scored 11 points in the Spartans win. Six came from three-pointers and the rest came in transition where he attacked and finished well. Pearson did a nice job of drawing fouls by pushing the pace and found open teammates when the opportunity presented itself.
Jordan Strickland | 6’4 | EBA ’20
Strickland continued his double-double streak with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The 6-foot-4 forward asserted his dominance in a win against the Bluebirds to help lift EBA to 3-0 on the summer.
Jadyn Williams | 5’7 | EBA ’22
Williams looked comfortable for the first time this summer on Wednesday and was knocking down shots consistently throughout. The 5-foot-7 freshman finished with 13 points, nine of which came from three’s. Williams did a nice job breaking his man down off the dribble and knocking down shots in the mid-range area as well.
Devin Adams | 5’7 | Bluebirds ’22
Adams led the Bluebirds with 11 points in the loss against EBA. The rising sophomore scored all of his points off the dribble and finishing with either pull-up jumpers or high, soft floaters. Adams was aggressive and set the tone early, but his team ultimately came up short.
Emanuel Henriques | 6’3 | Bayhawks
The Bayhawks struggled mightily to score this week, but Henriques took over the scoring load in the second half to keep his team close. Unfortunately, his game-high 12 points, eight rebounds and two assists weren’t enough to lift his team to a win, but he was still a standout to say the least.
