Who will be the next rising senior to verbal to a Division I school? As we enter the one and only July evaluation period for club basketball this weekend, we take a look at the most likely candidates.
Isaiah Amato (2020 Central Catholic)
Offers: Eastern Washington, Pacific
Playing with: ML20 @ adidas Summer Championships (Birmingham, AL)
Amato received his offer from Eastern Washington prior to his junior season but most recently picked up the offer from Pacific this past month. Similar to Garrett, the 6-foot-4 guard joined up with a shoe circuit team with ML20 but has largely played a supporting role, whether it has been starting or coming off of the bench. He’s mainly blended in, scoring a little here and there but mostly helping out with ball-handling, passing, and defense. Will more schools become enamored with his athletic profile, size, and potential in the backcourt? Amato is the only one in the class already with multiple options at this point, he might be the most viable candidate to next commit.
Micah Garrett (2020 Jefferson)
Offers: Jackson State
Playing with: Seattle Rotary @ EYBL Peach Jam (Augusta, SC)
Garrett has an early offer from Jackson State but there really hasn’t been much communication between the two sides since it was made last year. The 6-foot-3 wing now at Jefferson is hopeful that one of the programs he’s been staying in contact with – Colorado State, Pepperdine, Washington State, and Portland State – will pull the trigger on an offer. With Rotary, his role has been largely to come off the bench and knock down some spot-up threes. It will be interesting to see what might happen if he is able to do that and more.
Brian Goracke (2020 Churchill)
Offers: None
Playing with: Elite 24 @ UA Rise Championship (Emerson, GA)
No offers yet for Goracke, but some schools may be close to pulling the trigger with one more look at the athletic 6-foot-5 swingman this next weekend. Montana, Idaho, and Northwest Nazarene are the ones that have been in the most contact and perhaps Goracke can move up their boards to scholarship status with a big showing at UA Rise. The key with Goracke is his consistency from game to game as he’s been able to showcase his athleticism and ability to step out and knock down perimeter shots.
Dakota Reber (2020 Wilsonville)
Offers: None
Playing with: International Elite @ Mullin’s High Profile Tournament (Fort Worth, TX)
Reber is another one with several schools in contact and watching for awhile but no scholarship offers currently in hand. He’s made an unofficial visit to Eastern Washington, has another one planned to Southern Utah, and also recently camped at Seattle University. Reber has all the physical tools and he’s made strides with his perimeter game, but like Goracke the questions seem to center around consistency and his motor. If Reber busts out with a big tournament in Dallas in front of the right coaches, don’t be surprised if maybe even someone new like a Southland Conference school comes through with an offer.
Gabe Reichle (2020 Wilsonville)
Offers: None
Playing with: Hoop Salem 17U @ West Coast Challenge (Irvine, CA)
Reichle and his family have largely kept his recruitment close to the vest but it does seem fairly clear that the 6-foot-1 guard is looking for a high-academic opportunity, whether it be something like the Ivy League or other Division I or II possibilities up and down the West Coast. The latter will get a chance to watch him at the West Coast Challenge and Reichle is coming off a solid June playing point guard full time for Wilsonville and a recent great performance at Fullcourt Press All-West Camp.
