A
Defining the grade – teams that played above what we thought they were capable of, or were expected to win the event and did.
Austin – Short Agwa Nywesh and others, the Packers still beat potential top ten squads in Apollo, Hibbing, and St. Peter. It’s quite remarkable actually that the Packers short handed could beat such good teams.
Caledonia – Surely thought Caledonia would be top five but they have more depth than the King brothers, crushed North, Cristo Rey, and Rockford and then beat Waseca in the game of the day. Caledonia surely comes into the season as a top 2-3 team or heck, after this weekend, maybe the favorite. They were that good.
Eden Prairie – Expected to win their group of six and they did. Starting five didn’t play in the last game vs PC because of cramps and injuries.
Henning – State champs beat Nicollet, Bloomingin Prairie, Rushford-Peterson, and Parkers Prairie. Great showing.
Mankato East – the steamrolling Summer Series machine just keeps winning game after game. Beat Austin again this summer.
Osakis – Did not think that they could beat Cristo Rey but they have more talent, size, and balance than we knew. Beat Jordan too.
Park Center – Missing David Ijadimbola but still defeated Eden Prairie (in a game where most of the top guys didn’t play on either side), East Ridge, Hopkins, and Lakeville South. That’s a heck of a day. Showed they should be #1 or #2 next year.
Parkers Prairie – Knocked off Hayfield, New Ulm Cathedral, and WEM before the loss to Henning. Much better than expected
Princeton – with everything they lost frpm last year, the Tigers still beat Monitcello, and gave Mankato East and Delano a run. That was a story of the day for me.

Defining the grade – teams that played the way they were expected to
East Ridge – knocked off Wayzata and Chaska, lost to Park Center in a good game.
Eastview – beat CDH, beat Buffalo, lost to EP.
Hopkins – knocked off rival Wayzata and Lakeville South, lost to Park Center by three scores.
Maranatha Christian – Beat Esko, Beat JCC, proved their top 5 to 10 spot next year.
Mayer Lutheran – wins over Cass Lake-Bena and Blooming Prairie, impressive.
Perham – solid wins over JCC and MCA before losing to Waseca in a good game
Shakopee – gave EP a run to the end, beat Spring Lake Park and CDH.
St. Cloud Apollo – eye opening wins over Mound-Westonka and Totino-Grace. Made a statement.
Totino-Grace – a mixed group of talented juniors, talented frosh, role players around them, the Eagles were 2-1 beating Mound-Westonka and Hibbing
WEM – knocked off BOLD which is a big victory to build off of, 2-1
C
Defining the grade – teams that played just below expectations
BOLD – a loss to WEM is something that caught me by surprise, beat the others though
Cass Lake-Bena – saved the weekend with a one score win over Nicollet
Cretin-Derham Hall – took a thumping from Eastview, lost fairly big to Shakopee, beat Spring Lake Park
Delano – Thought they would beat Alexandria but was wrong, won the other two games.
Hibbing – Beat St. Peter (good win), lost to a short-handed Austin team (for a team that has top 10 expectations that was tough), and lost to Totino-Grace in a close game.
Lakeville South – gave Park Center a run before losing, lost to Hopkins, had the lead on Chaska when the game was called
Minneapolis Henry – lost two close games to good teams, then beat Monticello. Okay day for a veteran team.
Nicollet – There are some good pieces on this team and although they were 0-3 I left the event encouraged about them.
Rushford Peterson – won their pool but crushed by Henning, never expect them to get crushed
Spring Lake Park – crushed by Shakopee and lost CDH, beat a mentally rattled Buffalo squad.
Waseca – Nice win over Perham leading the Jays to 3-1 but they are expected to be the preseason #1 so anything less drops them down. That said, Ryan Dufault was playing at about 30 percent and that’s a big factor.
Wayzata – didn’t get a chance to see what they had in terms of a full line-up, they did beat Chaska, lost to East Ridge and Hopkins
Blooming Prairie – (1-2)
Grand Meadow – (1-2)
Hayfield – (1-2)
Esko – (1-2)
D
Defining the grade – teams that played well below what we thought they were going to do
Brooklyn Center – lots of change at BC but 0-3 was a surprise
Jordan – Went 0-3 on the day and while the games were close, an 0-3 showing was a surprise.
Minneapolis North – beat Osakis and Jordan but crushed by Caledonia from start to finish in a way nobody expected
Monticello – this team has good players, they lost in ways they shouldn’t have I would say.
New Ulm Cathedral – not sure how it happened but a very good Cathedral team lost all three games
St. Peter – I didn’t see who they had and didn’t but unless it was a JV team, going 0-3 is far below expectations for a squad bringing so much back from a state squad.
I
Defining the grade – teams that are unfair to judge because they were missing so many players
Buffalo – nothing to really say here except we wish Tony Dahl all the best. That’s what’s important.
Chaska – last game was called at the break after a fan injury
