16U: 2021 prospects that ended on a high note
Travis Cooper and the Carolina Dream Team were one team that played at a high level all weekend. Cooper led the division in scoring average with 25.5 points per contest. He put up games of 22 points and 29 points in pool play, showing off his ability to attack the rim.
Nelson St. Louis was another prospect from East Coast United that put up big scoring numbers. St. Louis finished second in the division in total points and produced 17.0 points per contest.
Jayson Fain put together some double-digit performances for Boo Williams 434/2021. In a 75-61 victory over Team Bond, he put up 19 points, showing off his ability to get to the rim and free-throw line.
Team Wall SE had a mix of their 2021 and 2022 prospects led by 2021 forwards Mac Washington and T.J. Saunders. Washington showed off his athleticism and stroke from the 3-point arc while Saunders showed off his length and ability to get to the rim.
Grant Warren of BigShots Elite South Carolina led the division with 3-pointers made with 11. He made four of them to the tune of 16 points against the FBCG Disciples in pool play.
15U: 2022 prospects are showing their stuff at the right time
6-foot-3 guard James Jones and Flight 22 staged quite the comeback against Team Felton’s 2023 Under Armour squad. After trailing 35-23 at halftime, they came back and won 70-65 led by Jones’ 23 points. He scored from deep, got to the free-throw stripe and showed poise getting to the basket. He’s one prospect to keep an eye on at New Hanover High School heading into the high school season.
6-foot-4 wing Collin Tanner of Team Hicks played on the 16U level even though he’s entering his sophomore season. He looked like he belonged out there as he has previously in summer league with South Granville. He finished the weekend with 21 points, scoring on all three levels. For the 16U division, he finished fifth in scoring with 17.0 points per contest.
Cannon Keziah was one prospect from the Cape Fear Warriors to keep an eye on. He had a solid all-around game against Team Felton’s 2023 squad with 22 points in a 68-65 victory. He showed off his 3-point shot with three made 3-pointers and also made five free throws. Keziah is a 6-foot-1 guard out at Topsail High School.
Team United EYBL had a solid outing with Daniel Sanford (Vance High School) and Perry Smith Jr. (Legacy Early College) leading the way. Sanford put up 19.0 points per game with 22 points and 19 points in pool play. Smith put up 10.3 points per contest with solid performances on the glass. He was a lot more aggressive attacking the rim.
14U: The incoming freshman class is filled with talent
2023 Zeke Brock and the NC Vipers are one squad that has gotten a lot of attention this summer. Brock is a prospect well beyond his years already in the 2023 class. He can already score at a consistent rate on all three levels and put up games of 17 points and 28 points and going 2-0 in pool play. Brock will be at Cape Fear Christian Academy this fall.
Ethan Jones of the Cape Fear Warriors was another prospect that stood out with his ability to knock down the 3-ball. He knocked down six 3-pointers from behind the arc in a 20 point outing on the first day of pool play. With his size and length, he’s got potential to emerge as a solid prospect in the 2023 class.
Team Felton’s UAA 2023 trio of Athan Gill, Alik Lewis and Draven Pilson led the way as they played on the 15U division. Gill led the way with 29 points in their opening game against Flight 22, getting to the free-throw line to make 10 to go along with an aggressive attack. Lewis was a solid floor general and finished with 18 points, making three 3-pointers and his solid floor game.
Pilson had an all-around game on scoring on all three levels himself. He’s got solid size already at 6-foot-5 and can play above the rim as well. He’ll be at Forsyth Country Day High School this fall.
