Doreante Tucker 6’1″ Cape Elite 17U: A 2020 slashing wing player from Cape Girardeau Central who led his team to a couple of victories in pool play. He is quick and athletic and very tough to keep away from the basket when he starts to get downhill. His first step is quick and he has the ability to finish around the basket at a variety of angles. He is a good ball handler who really excels in the transition game. He is also a big factor on defense with his length and anticipation.
Sam Richardson 6’5″ Arsenal Hoops 17U: The 2020 wing from Hancock played his usual all-around game in his team’s opening victory of the tournament. He scored a team-high 15 points, but he also rebounded well and did an excellent job on defense as the point man of Arsenal’s zone trap. He has good fundamentals when enable him to do the little things well such as get himself open, and get himself in the proper position on defense and for rebounding. He also knocked down a couple of 3-pointers.
Justice Thoma 6’4″ Silver Bullets: An aggressive 2020 wing from Cape Notre Dame who brings a lot of toughness as well as skill to the table. When he attacks the basket, he does it with authority, and he can finish strong in traffic for a three-point play or he can pull up to knock down a delicate mid-range jumper on the stop. He plays with a big of swagger that I like and he doesn’t take plays off.
John Weik 6’4″ STL Shooting Stars: It was my first time seeing this 2020 wing from Jefferson High play and he was impressive in leading his team to a couple of victories. In the first game, he scored 15 points in the first half and he was a whirlwind on both ends of the floor. He was attacking the basket, knocking down open 3-pointers and getting out on the break. He also got back on defense and blocked a couple of shots. He plays fast, but with a good feel for the game.
Eddie Weekly 5’11” Arsenal Hoops 15U: The 2022 point guard from Bishop DuBourg was one of the most impressive offensive players that I watched during the day. He was quick and under control and he displayed scoring from all three levels while also dropping dimes to open teammates. He has a very nice stroke from 3-point range and he did it off the catch and off the bounce. He had a very strong day.
Ajustin Pearson 5’11” Show-Me State Warriors 15U: A young 2020 point guard from Lincoln Prep in KC who did an excellent job of making plays for himself and his teammates. His ability to penetrate into the lane was strong, plus he had several coast to coast forays, which led to easy layups. When his team fell behind by double-digits early, he took it upon himself to rally the team with excellent play at both ends of the court.
