For those of us in Indianapolis, we saw a number of teams from Indiana showcased at the Adidas Invitational. This week for us was one where we wanted to find those deeper talents and look for guys that we hadn’t spent as much time on in the Spring. So, today we have our look at those in the class of 2020 from the Adidas Invitational from this past weekend.
Dominic Redding – 6’1 SG 2020 – Evansville North (IN) – DistinXion 2020 Black
Redding is a long, rangy guard with some scoring ability. Can be active at times but want to see more out of him. Athletic and with his length, he could end up as an impact defender at the next level. Jumper looked clean and repeatable.
Grant Gohmann – 6’7 C 2020 – Floyd Central (IN) – IE Side 2020
Gohmann is a big, bruising post player with some mobility and shooting touch. Has some room to improve the frame and get a little mobility long term. However, he does seem to know how to use his body well and can be a tough out on rebounds. High IQ with a willingness to play his role. Can physically post up, move and re-post. Also, showed he can step out and shoot. That could be the key for him.
Nick Anderson – 6’2 SG 2020 – Lake Central (IN) – IE Northwest 2020
Nick is a thin-framed guard who has some good size and quickness. His best when he can get the ball in his hands on the wing. Really quick release and great feel on the arc. Has a little breakdown ability on the wing to get to his jumper and can really stroke it from all over. Ability to put up a lot of points quickly.
Austin Darnell – 6’7 PF 2020 – Washington Twp. (IN) – IE Northwest 2020
Austin is a long, rangy forward who showed he could really stroke it. Quick, short release but it works for him. Looked really mobile and agile but still growing into his frame a bit. More of a perimeter-oriented forward right now but didn’t mix it up inside and use his length pretty well. Has enough ball handling ability, with his size, to show some long term upside.
Mitchell Wirts – 6’4 PF 2020 – Homeschool (IN) – GPP 2020 Black
Mitchell is an undersized forward but has enough skill to get a strong look. He’s got a big, filled out frame with some good strength but he’s best when he is able to get off some shots from behind the arc. He’s got great touch and can be an interesting fit in the right system. Big and strong enough that their is a path for him being pretty solid defensively and enough offense to bring some value.
Jacob Johnson – 6’5 SF 2020 – Oldenburg Academy (IN) – Indiana Legends 2020
Jacob is a long, rangy wing with some really good ball handling and creativeness on the perimeter and into the mid-range. Still not a guy who is going to get to the rim a ton but he’s so good finding that spot in the 22’-15’ range where he can go to either hand and pull-up. Just as good off the catch, too. Frame is going to take on quite a bit of strength and while he might need a little time to develop, he’s looking more and more like a breakout candidate early in his college career.
Bailey Conrad – 6’7 PF 2020 – Christian Academy (IN) – Indiana Legends 2020
Conrad is a big, framed post player with good athletic ability and mobility. Lateral quickness will be something he will need to improve but going north and south is no issue at all. He did show off that jumper a lot more tonight, willing to pull-up quite a bit and hit a pretty good percentage. Needs to take his time as he did rush a couple but the form and release are there to see the skill work at the next level. Gives a lot of versatility on offensive options for college programs.
Cody Doig – 6’2 SG 2020 – Bloomington South (IN) – DistinXion 2020 Red
Cody is a slight wing scorer who had himself a pretty good game this weekend. Showed he could knock down some perimeter jumpers and mix in some open floor finishes. Did have a little toughness that seemed to show up with his confidence in his game. Frame that should grow and add strength well in college. Just want to see that type of production more often.
Matt Munoz – 6’6 PF 2020 – Southport (IN) – Grind Premier 2020
Matt looked great this weekend using his slight frame and mobility to really impact things at the rim. Did well on the boards and was able to make some second chance points look easy. That versatility is really playing up and he can be very difficult to defend in the right offense. Once he packs on some more strength, he has the size and skill to be a tremendous low post scorer. Perimeter jumper is also starting to play well for him.
