LAWRENCE, Kan. — The 2019 Hardwood Classic wrapped up on Sunday at the Kansas Sports Pavilion with Howard Pulley EYBL 2021 defeating the Marcus Denmon Elite in the championships game.
Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the tournament’s top wings in the 16U division from the Kansas side.
(Wing) 0-Nate Hawk, 6’3, F, 2021, Valley Falls, Kansas Hoggs
Hawk does well off the ball and can be a problem for teams who can’t match up with his height. He has a long frame and is good at moving inside and then back around the 3-point line. He can second guess himself at times but shows a lot of promise on the block.
(SR) 10 — Kyun Jackson, 6’3, G, 2021, KC Sumner, Showtine 16U
Jackson showed why he is a tough match-up for opponents this weekend as he helped Showtime go undefeated in pool play. He has good size for a guard and likes to take advantage of mismatches by taking smaller guards to the post. He has some good moves in the paint and has a nice feel for scoring around the basket. Jackson is a good passer with good court vision and can see over the top of a defense and make the right pass.
(Wing) 22 — Isaac Patterson, 6’5, F, 2021, Blue Valley North, MoKan 2021
Patterson is a skilled wing player with good size and length and 6’5. He runs the floor well, is a terrific passer and keeps his head up, looking for the open man.
(Wing) 30 — CJ Powell, 6’4, G/F, 2021, Highland Park, MoKan 2021
Powell had a day in Saturday’s opening game against the Colorado Chaos, throwing down several dunks in transition and showing the ability to run the floor. He is a strong wing player with good size who can handle the ball and play an inside-out type game.
(Wing) 24-Mason Thomas, 6’3, G/F, 2022, Holton, Kansas Hoggs
A nice wing player and small forward who moves around opponents off the ball and comes inside and cleans up plays. He cuts back door and can get easy layups because of it. He is a flexible forward who can make plays out of position. He goes up for rebounds and looks to contest shots.
