Kosy Akametu 6’3 SG/SF 2021 King Drew (Team Zona 16)
Akametu has the highest upside out of all of the wings on Team Zona’s 16U team. He is strong enough and tall enough to be extremely versatile. In fact, in one of the games, Team Zona continuously posted him up. He either scored or assisted on 12 straight points due to his versatile style of play.
August Hubbard 6’3 SF 2021 Trivium Prep (Team Zona 16U)
Hubbard intrigued me due to his versatility and basketball IQ. He does not force things and is one of the few prospects that I saw at the event who truly understands how to play multiple positions. He was solid on the wing and hit shots he was supposed to hit. Further, he had a number of solid post entrees. On the block, he showed good footwork and finished well around the rim. Defensively, he was stout.
Paul Hayden Paul Hayden 6'5" | SF Sunnyslope | 2020 State AZ 6’5 SF 2020 Sunnyslope (Team Zona 17U)
Hayden is an interesting prospect whom many are still deciding which level he can play at. What we do know is he has good size and strength. Further, he plays with a toughness to him that is elite. He is not afraid of making the tough plays and competing with anyone. Further, he has improved his ability to put the ball on the floor and shoot the mid-range jumper.
Agwawemach Nywesh 6’2 SG 2020 AZ Compass Prep (Firestorm 17U)
Nywesh was without a doubt one of my favorite prospects to watch at the tournament. He is an impact guy who does not need the ball in his hands to make an impact. In fact, in both of the games I saw of the Firestorm, he arguably had more points than dribbles. He moves well without the basketball and can shoot in catch and shoot situations. Further, he is a tough on ball defender who rotates well in help side.
Shemar Morrow Shemar Morrow 6'4" | SF Shadow Mountain | 2020 State AZ 6’5 SF 2020 Shadow Mountain (Firestorm 17U)
The word has been out on Morrow for quite some time: He is athletic and competitive. He guarded 1-5 for Firestorm and was able to do it due to his competitive mentality. Without a doubt, Team Zona and Veritas had some skilled size. Morrow embraced the challenge and was constantly pushing the bigs off of their spots and making things challenging for them.
Davon Cobbs Davon Cobbs 6'3" | SF Shadow Mountain | 2020 State AZ 6’4 SF 2020 Shadow Mountain (Firestorm 17U)
Cobbs has a better understanding of the game than I had previously noticed. At 6’4, with his athleticism and IQ, he is able to play an array of spots on the floor. He did not necessarily do anything that made him stick out, but he made a lot of solid plays and was a glue guy. He did a little bit of everything for the Firestorm team.
