Continue ReadingAtlanta, Georgia – The 2nd annual Battle For Georgia tournament was a great way to begin the month of July and the last part of this year’s AAU season. Some of Georgia top shoe sponsored and non-shoe sponsored grasstroot programs came together for one day and one tournament. The Battle For Georgia is single elimination and featured a 15U, 16U, and 17U division. Only eight teams fill out each division and it was win or go home. Here we take a look at the winners from each division from this year’s tournament.
15U Division Champions: Nike EYBL TSF Mack
Before heading to North Augusta, South Carolina later this week for the Nike Peach Jam tournament, The Skill Factory (Mack) made a stop at the Battle For Georgia event and took home the first ever 15U division crown. They were led by 2022 PG Bruce Thornton Jr. of Milton High School, who also received the most valuable player award for the division. TSF defeated teams like Double Trouble (first round), Georgia Stars (semifinals), and Game Elite Big 5 (championship) before taking home the trophy. Players like 2022 F Chauncy Wiggins and 2022 PG Devin Farrell stoodout as well.
16U Division Champions: Adidas Gauntlet Game Elite
Game Elite head coach Chris Williams captured his second consecutive Battle For Georgia title with Game Elite but this time in the 16U division. All three games were come back wins for this group and what a tough group kids they are. Game Elite defeated Atlanta Xpress (first round), H.Y.P.E. Hawks (semifinals), and Georgia Stars (championship) in their route to the title. 2021 F Robbie Armbrester received the division’s most valuable player award. Players like 2021 SG Garrison Powell and 2021 PG Broc Bidwell stoodout as well.
17U Division Champions: Georgia Knights
The first non-shoe sponsored grassroots program, Georgia Knights, defeated the Atlanta Celtics on a buzzer beater to bring home the 17U division title. They defeated Team Georgia Magic (first round) and Team Forrest (semifinals) before making their appearance in the final game. Kennesaw State commit 2020 W Chris Youngblood, who put up a game high 36 points, received the most valuable player award for the 17U division. 2020 SG Brandon Stroud was also a standout for the Georgia Knights on their title run.
