2023 Standouts: Central Georgia Exposure
A freshman is defined as a newcomer or novice. Although, the class of 2023 is young, they can compete with the best of them.
What makes a rising freshman standout? Basketball IQ separates these players from their competitors. They combine their athleticism and basketball knowledge to make great plays.
Jeremy Kent is a 6’0 shooting guard that plays fundamentally sound basketball. Kent is a versatile player and difficult to guard. He can shoot, pass, handle the ball, rebound and defend with equal level of efficiency. Kent is a valuable contributor to his team. His ability to draw fouls and get to the line can come in handy, as well as his solid scoring ability.
Malachi Searcy is 6’0 guard. Searcy isn’t a player to but into a box, he also plays forward. After watching him play I was most impressed with his aggressiveness and intensity. He delivers maximum effort in the trenches and doesn’t back down. When it comes to energy, few players bring it harder than he does. Searcy plays with heart and leaves it all on the floor.
Latrell Powell is a 5’9 point guard that plays with a mountain of energy and intensity. Powell is the type of player you dislike if he’s not on your team. He plays hard-nosed defense and is relentless until the end of the possession. If you think the only thing he brings to the table is his defense you’ll get scored on. He makes the most of his athletic ability by knocking down threes, attacking the rim and getting his teammates involved. He doesn’t just contribute offensively, he also produces offense.
Henry Williams is a true point guard. He’s 5’5, but his presence on the court cannot be measured. Williams is a great ball-handler. His mentality is different than everyone on the floor. He’s a passer and shooter who thrives off getting other involved offensively. His shot beyond the arc makes him a threat to the other team. Williams footwork makes him an explosive player. He’s fun to watch because of his flashy moves and ball-handling skills. He plays every game like it’s his last.
