This update comes after some players have had massive AAU seasons and “summer ball” in June with their high school teams. Multiple members of the class now hold D1 offers and others have shown they are worthy of those honors soon. Here’s a look at the best post players in our 2021 Rankings.
Trey James, Martin County – Trey is one of the most known commodities in the 2021 class. It seems like he’s been play varsity at Sheldon Clark/Martin County for a decade. James is a good leaper and shot blocker with good defensive timing and instincts. His offense has started to improve as he can consistently hit turnaround jumpers. Trey still has to improve his lateral quickness as he struggles to guard a face up Center or one who can put the ball on the floor.
Darrius Washington, Fern Creek – Washington still has some of the highest upside of anyone in the state. He has size and agility that you see with high major players but he has to take the next step and start playing as hard as guys on that level. Sometimes Darrius looks like he’s just trying to not do anything that will get him yelled at. If he can shake that and just start playing all out, all the time, he can be a big time college prospect who can land at the mid major D1 level at worst.
Cearius Warren, Southern – If you want the player with the most upside in the state, “King” Warren is that guy. But as a Junior, it’s time for him to start turning potential into production. If there was a dunk contest for Kentucky kids, Warren would almost definitely win it. With his athleticism and size, he should be averaging 15+ points and 10+ rebounds per game this year at Southern. If he can do that, he’ll be well on his way to the high major offers he covets.
Dez Lindsay, Male – Our biggest riser in the rankings, Dez is going to do the dirty work for one of the best teams in Kentucky this season. Coming off a strong AAU season, Lindsay is primed for a strong Junior campaign. He’s already 6’6 and still growing and is an above average rebounder. If Dez can add some stretch to his game, he can be a prototypical modern 4 man that colleges will covet.
Trace Flanary, Bowling Green – Flanary plays every game like his life is on the line and it shows. Trace is the type of player that coaches love because he goes so hard. He rebounds and can knock down open shots or attack his defender off the dribble, making him a hard cover for opposing coaches. Like Dez Lindsay, Trace plays on a loaded high school team and may not always have the most impressive stats but has a future at the next level as a solid college prospect.
Other Names to Know:
Trevor Hardin, Henry County – The 6’6 forward plays with a great motor and will try to dunk on anyone who gets in his way.
Josh McGuire, Knott County Central – McGuire has some stretch to his game and should average 10+ rebounds this season.
Jacobi Huddleston, Bowlin Green – At 6’7 he has off the charts potential but needs to start playing harder.
Hunter Penn, Woodford County – A hard worker with a great motor, Penn will anchor one of the best teams in the 8th region.
Hunter McNaughton, Webster County – Big and strong, he can be the difference maker for the Trojans in the 2nd region this season.
