Continue ReadingSince the last rankings update in March, we have had some major movements up the rankings boards, including some players who are new to the rankings altogether. This update comes after some players have had massive AAU seasons and “summer ball” in June with their high school teams. Multiple members of the class now hold D1 offers and others have shown they are worthy of those honors soon. Here’s a look at the newest additions to our 2021 rankings with this latest update. This does not include players who were previously removed from rankings due to quitting their high school team or being ruled ineligible for the season.
Dez Lindsay, Male (#15) – It’s not often a kid goes from unranked to Top 15 in the class but Dez Lindsay has that type of talent. Already 6’6 and still growing, Lindsay is strong and athletic with the ability to play above the rim. He reminds me of 2020 Rashad Bishop of Ballard. Dez can be a difference maker with his rebounding ability. He is likely to put up modest numbers at Male this season with the depth and firepower they have but Lindsay has a very high ceiling as a prospect and should be a player that D1 schools will track for the next two seasons.
Jaylen Fairman, Jeffersontown (#22) – Fairman was the #42 prospect in our Prep Hoops Indiana rankings before moving across the bridge. Jaylen keeps showing that he is lightning fast with a good feel for the game and the ability to pass in traffic. He joins a J-Town team that is loaded with quality pieces and should form a stellar backcourt with Brandon Rayzer-Moore. Fairman could move up over time but 22 feels right for where to slot him as he enters the Kentucky rankings.
Trevor Hardin, Henry County (#24) – 6’6 and athletic with a great motor, Trevor plays hard and doesn’t take plays off. As a prospect, he’s a tweener as an undersized post or big wing and he’s not a great shooter right now but he does lay it all on the line, every game out. Hardin has been a little off the radar due to playing at a smaller school but his summer of AAU has helped to get him noticed by college coaches.
Jacobi Huddleston, Bowling Green (#37) – If you’re looking for a player with upside, look no further. Jacobi is 6’7 and still growing and possesses a skill level that some his size do not. The main issue for Huddleston is a general lack of motor. He doesn’t play hard nearly as often as he should. If his motor ever catches up to his potential, Jacobi would be a no brainer D1 prospect and could be mid major D1 or better.
Hunter Penn, Woodford County (#38) – The opposite of Huddleston, Penn plays with a great motor and maximizes every inch of his game. He should have a big season at Woodford County as one of the few true post players in the 8th region.Coming off a big AAU season with the Louisville Magic, Hunter has a chance to be a top 10 player in the 8th and be a match-up problem for almost any opponent the Yellow Jackets run into.
Kole Brown, Madison Central (#42) – Brown is ready for a breakout season after being a solid role player as a Sophomore for the Indians. Kole is a strong wing who can knock down open shots or score at the rim and should get plenty of shots for a Madison Central team who will be looking for a go to scorer this season.
Noah Stansbury, Greenwood (#53) – Possessing the high IQ you should expect from a coach’s son, Noah can run an offense and knock down open shots. He’s never going to be the most athletic player on the floor but Stansbury knows how to use length and angles to defend quicker guards and is good at finding his teammates for clean looks, especially in transition.
Blake Robinson, Grant County (#57) – One of the better players in Northern Kentucky that no one talks about, Robinson has had a good AAU season after a strong Sophomore campaign that saw him crack the varsity rotation for Grant County. Heading into his Junior year, look for Blake to have a strong Junior season and try to get Grant in the mix to win the region.
