We will dish another update out right before the high school season but right now here is a look at the top five guards in the state.
2020 6’2 Jeremy Roach | Paul VI
As well as the top guard in the state of Virginia, he is also the number one overall prospect in the state. Roach is an elite point guard that committed to Duke this spring. We have not seen Roach in action since last fall as he suffered a torn acl right before this past high school season but in our eyes, he is clearly the number one prospect in the state. He has every intangible that you would want in a point guard as he is in the discussion to being the number one point guard in all of the 2020 class. Look for Roach to get heavy minutes in a Duke uniform as soon as he steps foot on campus.
2020 6’4 Cam Thomas | Oak Hill Academy
Coming in as the second ranked guard in the state and three overall is guard, Cam Thomas. Thomas led the EYBL in scoring this past spring and summer averaging 29.5 points per game which backs up the discussion about Thomas being the best scorer in all of high school and grassroots basketball. He can score in every way possible and we expect that to continue at the college level. Thomas has already taken official visits to NC State and UConn.
2020 6’4 Joe Bamisile | Monacan
Bamisile might be one of the most improved players in the 2020 rankings coming off a huge junior season. Bamisile had a lot of hype when he was younger but after coming back to Richmond, Virginia for his junior season, he saw his recruitment take off. Bamisile is a tremendous scorer with great athleticism and plays with a lot of energy. He committed to Northwestern back in April but just yesterday flipped his decision to Virginia Tech. Joe is the first commitment to the Hokies 2020 class and is a great building block for Mike Young and his staff.
2020 6’2 Marcus Dockery | Bishop O’Connell
Coming in as the fourth ranked guard, is Maryland pledge, Marcus Dockery. Dockery can play either the one or two and is coming off a productive summer with DC Premier. Dockery committed early to the Terrapins and will bring good playmaking skills and a nice array of shooting to College Park. He also has shown good ability to get into the paint and score around the rim. Look for Dockery to take a big step forward this season for Bishop O’Connell as they try to capture a WCAC championship.
2020 6’4 Josiah Freeman | Paul VI
Freeman is another guy on this list that is looking to take the next step forward at Paul VI. Freeman did already take a big step forward in his junior season becoming one of the main scorers on a Panthers team that lost Jeremy Roach and Anthony Harris to season ending injuries. Known as a shot maker, Freeman can hit midrange floaters and overall be a main vocal point in an offense. He is not going to wow you but is always going to be in the right position ready to make a winning play for his team.
