This invite-only camp featured some of the best prospects from states within the region. Brandon Jenkins was in on all of the action and highlights the top Texas guards who stood out during the live period event:
(Alphabetical Order)
Bryon Armstrong 6’2″ 2021 Antonian (San Antonio, TX): He simply played hard. His effort is an asset that can be counted on consistently. The athletic, strong-bodied southpaw rebounds, finishes through contact and is a thief in the passing lanes defensively.
Shamir Bogues Shamir Bogues 6'3" | SG Killeen Ellison | 2020 State #498 Nation TX 6’3″ 2020 Ellison (Killeen, TX): Bogues looks to have added strength to his arms and shoulders while showing more explosion than I ever have seen from him previously. No defender could stop him from penetrating and finishing at the rim. He arguably was the best defender in his session.
Davion Coleman Davion Coleman 6'1" | PG Jersey Village | 2020 State TX 6’1″ 2020 Jersey Village (Houston, TX): He displayed great burst off the dribble and constantly got to the rim to finish inside. He is an extremely aggressive guard who showed that he can explode and play above the rim when the opportunity presents itself.
R.J. Crawford R.J. Crawford 6'3" | SG Langham Creek | 2020 State TX 6’3″ 2020 Langham Creek (Houston, TX): Crawford was scoring from all three ranges. He connected on good looks from the outside and showed a potent floater game in the lane. He is a confident shooter that possesses a strong college-ready frame.
Imo Essien Imo Essien 6'0" | PG Bishop Lynch | 2021 State TX 6’0″ 2021 Bishop Lynch (Dallas, TX): Essien had the ball on a string and delivered accurate passes when he got into the lane. If the scoring opportunity did not present itself, he dished out some slick assists. The rising junior guard has a nice pace to the game.
Derek Luna Derek Luna 6'2" | SG Duncanville | 2020 State TX 6’2″ 2020 Duncanville (Duncanville, TX): It was great to see Luna shooting the ball well during Session II. He has a pretty stroke and follow through. Luna shot the ball with great confidence and never hesitated to pull up from three in transition.
Zhuric Phelps Zhuric Phelps 6'3" | PG Duncanville | 2021 State TX 6’3″ 2021 PG Lee (Midland, TX): Phelps saw his recruitment rise after his Session II showings. He is one who has never put together a complete game of production in front of my eyes, but his game screams potential. His movements, intangibles, and athleticism provide him with all tools needed to be a productive point guard in the near future. Sam Houston State and UTEP extended offers to the rising junior guard, while Loyola-Chicago and UTSA have shown serious interest.
Kaleb Stewart Kaleb Stewart 6'1" | PG Humble Atascocita | 2021 State #242 Nation TX 6’1″ 2021 Atascocita (Humble, TX): He had the best performance I saw from any prospect on day three. Stewart converted on good looks from three and wowed me with his desire to play above the rim in any setting. Atascocita scored big in the transfer market with this talented guard.
