Here is a look at the top prospects I saw.
ICYMI: 2019 Elite 32 (Saturday Notebook)
Gabriel Sharp (Tampa Prep/Skills Center Elite)
The shooting ability of 2020 6’4″ Tampa Prep guard Gabriel Sharp is quite strong. He found fire on Sunday against Tampa Bayhawks Tucker, scoring 23 points which included five 3’s. Sharp shot the ball well all weekend and he’s taking smarter shots and finding good areas to create openings for himself. Slimmer and a bit stronger, he’s going to have a crucial role for Tampa Prep this fall as a senior leader. He has the looks of Division II/NAIA player.
Ladarron “Phat” Cleveland (Sanford Seminole/Raptors Elite)
A very fun undersized and super physical guard, 2020 6’0″ Sanford Seminole athlete Ladarron “Phat” Cleveland” impressed me on Sunday against Trey Thompkins Hoops. He’s a gritty downhill player who doesn’t back away from anyone. Built in his upper and lower body, Cleveland was attacking at will and drawing frequent trips to the free throw line. His tenacity and willingness to put his body on the line will earn him a spot somewhere at the next level.
Ahmad Johnson (PHS Elite)
The former Charlotte standout, 6’3″ guard Ahmad Johnson is headed to play basketball at PHS post grad as a 2020 prospect this season. Running with the PHS Elite AAU group this summer, he was the most dominant player on the floor for his side in a loss to Smyrna Stars Gold on Sunday. Johnson is both quick and physical and is able to mix it up with his attacks, quick jumpers and overall play in transition. He’s a Division I/Division II player.
Brent Davis & Isaiah Josue (SOH Elite)
The duo of Brent Davis and Isaiah Josue is fun to watch put in the work for SOH Elite 17U. Going a perfect 7-0 this week, this organization earned fine performances from Davis, a 2020 6’3″ guard from Miramar and Josue, a 2020 6’2″ guard from Mater Academy. Davis had a steady week, dropping a 40 piece on Friday and following that up with a 19 point outing on Sunday against GPI All Stars. As for Josue, he was steady, attacking and getting to the rack for jumpers and lay-ins. Both prospects opened a lot of college coaches’ eyes.
Tyler Johnson (Georgia Cedar Shoals/Smyrna Stars Gold)
The Smyrna Stars Gold team have a lot of shooters and athletes. A key piece that stood out for them in a tilt with PHS Elite was 2020 6’3″ guard Tyler Johnson. He is a scorer by nature and he really thrives as a mid-range jump shooter. A combo guard, who is both elusive and decisive with the ball in his hands.
CJ Williams & Omar Rowe (New Orleans Elite)
In a loss to 1Family, the New Orleans Elite 17U group flashed a lot of athletic potential with 2021 6’6″ forward Harrison Central forward CJ Williams and TaylorMade Prep forward Omar Rowe. Williams is a long and thick athlete who has very good foot speed and court awareness. He likes to push the tempo. Williams earned offers LSU, Mississippi State and Southern over the last two days. As for Rowe, he’s a very good anticipator and a player who gets to the rack with ease as a dunker and driver. UAB offered on Saturday.
