I took in the action and here are my thoughts on some prospects that stood out in my eyes.
Tre Carroll (Charlotte/Team Parsons SWFL)
In the opening game of the event, 2021 Charlotte 6’6″ guard/forward Tre Carroll finished with a team-best 27 points in an overtime win over Game Elite Big 5. He was hitting from deep often in the second half after going inside and using his length to finish time and time again in the first half. Carroll is able to win one-on-one battles as a shooter and attacker with his size and jumper. UCF was among the schools present to watch the rising junior.
Eric Lee (Superior Collegiate/Team Speights)
In a win over Team Trezz, 2020 6’3″ Superior Collegiate guard Eric Lee was the best offensive piece rolling for Team Speights. He tends to be a reliable quick twitch shooter and he loves to get out on the break as a slasher and passer. He had 17 points in that game. Lee is a very good athlete who is really starting to grab the attention of Division I coaching staffs with his mix of speed, smarts and elusiveness.
Cedric Seabrough (Georgia Swainsboro/Game Elite Big 5)
Alongside his twin brother Fredrick, Cedric Seabrough proved to be a fine athlete for Game Elite Big 5 against Team Parsons SWFL. The 6’2″ guard has a good feel for when to attack in one-on-one situations or even against two defenders. Seabrough is hard to slow down whenever he has the ball. His jumper is a work in progress, but he’s already a mature and tough scorer.
Dakota Moore (Boca Ciega/Team Speights Black)
An unsigned senior, 6’0″ guard Dakota Moore was a standout for Boca Ciega these past few seasons. On Thursday, he was really solid for Team Speights Black, taking smart shots and catching fire in the second half against AC Georgia. Moore told me that he’ll reclass to 2020 and attend United Prep, an upstart postgrad program in the Tampa Bay area led by Conrad Foss.
Matthew Lentz (Durant/Team Parsons 16U)
A total gym rat, 2021 Durant guard/forward Matthew Lentz continues to gain confidence in his overall game every time I see him. For Team Parsons 16U, he is a knockdown shooter, who sees the floor well and makes the smart pass almost always. Lentz has really good smoothness to his game and I think he’ll be a top junior in the Tampa Bay area who is ready to emerge.
Tyree Saunders & Markell Alums (Team Nike Wildcats)
Playing downhill and attacking, Team Nike Wildcats 17U pair Tyree Saunders and Markel Allums are a pleasure to watch. Saunders is a 6’1″ guard from First Coast who doubles as a wide receiver for the football team. Always vocal and flashy, his upper body strength is a huge asset that helps him downhill. As for Allums, the 2021 6’4″ guard from Oakleaf is playing up and when he drives and attacks, he is hard to contain with his size and developed body. He has plenty of upside.
Tarence Guinyard, Marquez Ray & Bryce Turner (Jacksonville Warriors Red)
Jacksonville Warriors Red 16U has a very dangerous and dynamic trio in place. 2021 6’0″ Atlantic Coast guard Tarence Guinyard gets everything going with his smooth ballhandling, transition play and scoring ability. 2021 6’8″ Andrew Jackson forward Marquez Ray has endless length, uses his body well and knows how to find good areas inside. 2021 6’5″ Sandalwood forward Bryce Turner seems to always be locked in and ready to jump for a board or putback.
