Moving On. Century losses five players from their rotation including U of Mary bound Treyton Mattern, Bryce Auck, Mason Peterson, Stevie Kraljic, and Blake Stuart. Mattern was the top scorer in the WBA last year while Kraljic was one of the top five rebounders in the league. Century relied heavily on Mattern for all the playmaking as the Patriots only had three players on the roster they could expect to get more than two scores from.
Returning Starters. When 5-foot-11 senior guard Cade Feeney was healthy last year he was the second best player on the team and one of the better producers in the league. Feeney was a 16 point, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assist a game player that shot 42.3 percent from the field, 36.5 percent from the arc, and 81 percent at the foul line. Feeney led Century in steals despite playing eight less games than the rest of the rotation.
Reserves Playing a Bigger Role. Griffin Jensen is the only other senior that saw decent time varsity time last year playing in 16 games. Jensen does shoot the ball well and is active in the passing lanes defensively. Andrew Leingang and Ian Ely were every game varsity regulars as sophomores meaning they are likely to step into starting role. Leingang especially as he’s the only upperclassmen bigger than 6-foot-2. The 6-foot-5 Leingang did an excellent job rebounding plus he made half his shot attempts. The six-foot Ely is a three-point shooter almost exclusively. Six-foot-3 junior wing Justice Coleman played in all but four games a year ago. Coleman’s size and agility will be needed immediately.
More Potentials from the JV. There are seniors who played JV a year ago and will attempt to work their way into a rotation spot, and there is time available for some of these players. Cody Sorenson and Cody Backman are two of those players. Also watch for Connor Trahan who was the only freshman moved up last year (played on the sophomore team).
