Lakepoint Sportscenter was once again the host of the annual tournament and featured some Georgia’s best grassroot programs across the state. This year’s event featured a 15U division for the first time. Each division featured good talent but here we list which prospects stoodout in the 15U and 16U division.
2022 PG Bruce Thornton Jr. of TSF Mack pictured – The future of Georgia basketball is in good hands and especially with players like rising sophomore Bruce Thornton Jr. of Milton High School. Thornton Jr. has established himself as the number one player in the state of Georgia in his class after his phenomenal performance at the Battle For Georgia. Bruce holds good size and strength at his position and at his age and just a has that knack for getting the ball in the basket. He averaged 21.5 points per game in his matchups against other in state top 2022 points guards Dillon Hunter and Sterling “Scoota” Henderson.
2022 F Joyful Hawkins of Game Elite Big 5 – The 6-foot-7 plus forward Joyful Hawkins will catch a lot of attention from the college coaches and scouts this week during the July live period. Hawkins has had a wonderful spring, summer and it showed today at the Battle For Georgia. The rising sophomore plays with a very high motor and could be considered a double-double machine. He is super effective on the glass and holds long arms to disrupt shot attempts from his opponents. He is a lob catcher and an extremely good finisher around the basket.
2022 PG Zocko Littleton Jr. of Team YRN – One of the most effective guards in the state of Georgia in the 2022 class this year has been Zocko Littleton Jr. of South Cobb High School. His body has improved slightly over the last few months and you can certailny see the upside in the 6-foot-1 point guard. Zocko is a shot maker and has mature shooting mechanics already in his game. Although losing in the semifinal round to Game Elite Big 5, Littleton Jr. played his best and proved he belongs in the conversation when talking about some of the best guards in the state in the 2022 class.
2021 PG AJ White of Georgia Stars – Talk about a scoring guard at his size, the 5-foot-9 point guard AJ White was on fire in all of his games at the Battle For Georgia. White is a shot maker and has the skill to knock down jumpers from basically anywhere on the floor. He was efficient and at his size he was able to still get his shots off when much bigger defenders were on him. His size could be a problem for college coaches and scouts but the shot making skills will always be there.
2022 PG Jaquez Thornton of Double Trouble – The 5-foot-11 point guard Jaquez Thornton was the first standout I spotted once the Battle For Georgia tournament tipped off. His matchup against top point guard Bruce Thornton Jr., was the matchup and game that caught my eye. Jaquez did not back down from the challenge. He showed competitiveness on both ends, toughness, and was able to hit jumpers from three point land to keep his squad in the game. Size is a problem for Jaquez as of now, but if he can improve his game and his body, he could be looked on by college coaches in the near future.
