Jeffery Brazziel – 2022 – SF – Milwaukee Bradley Tech
It’s obvious that Brazziel has talent. His story will be written as to whether or not he buys in and does the things that don’t require talent — rebounding, help-side defense, communicating, hustle plays, etc. When the ball is in his hands, Brazziel can be special. He’s a silky-smooth wing that can get to his left any time he wants. While he’s mostly a slasher, his 3-point shot looked consistent on Saturday and if that continues, it’s definitely a game changer for him. The No. 2 ranked prospect in Wisconsin’s 2022 class, Brazziel has a ton of upside as a scorer and playmaker, but he can really help his value by doing the little things more frequently.
Carter Gilmore – 2020 – F – Arrowhead
Without a doubt, Gilmore was the most dominant player during the morning session. The 6-foot-8 forward showcased a vast variety of skills. Gilmore ran the show offensively as a point forward, pushing the pace in transition, getting the ball ahead, and creating offense off the dribble. Gilmore looked much improved as a mid-range scorer, able to spin in the paint and get the ball in the hole with his momentum going away from the basket. A strong mid-major prospect with offers from Hofstra, Missouri State, Indiana State, Appalachian State, UW-Milwaukee, Southern Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, and others, Gilmore continues to look like he could play his way to the high major level with some added strength and a consistent back to the basket game.
Javaughn Hannah – 2022 – W/G – Mount Clemens (MI)
Emoni Bates isn’t the only stud freshman coming out of Michigan. Hannah was without question one of the most impressive players on campus Saturday. Already about 6-foot-3, Hannah has an extremely smooth and effective pull-up game. Hannah’s one-dribble jumper was just deadly throughout camp and defenders couldn’t stop him from getting to his right hand. Hannah also displayed some terrific athleticism in traffic, able to hang, finish, and adjust around the rim. A year from now, it looks like Hannah’s athleticism will take off and he’ll be finishing above the rim with ease. In addition to UW, Michigan and Michigan State are also tracking Hannah early.
Chucky Hepburn – 2021 – PG – Bellevue West (NE)
A real sleeper out in Nebraska, Hepburn was one of the best players in attendance. He’s stocky and undersized, but Hepburn definitely makes up for it with his ability to rise above the rim. You take a look at him and in no way do you think Hepburn can dunk on guys listed at 6-foot-8, but that’s just what he does. He needs to make smarter decisions with the basketball, but Hepburn possesses the vision and feel for the game of a high major guard. A pass-first floor general, Hepburn can take over offensively when needed. Hepburn impressed most with his mid-range scoring ability, able to shake defenders off the dribble and pull-up effectively from 12-15 feet. Using a very quick first step, Hepburn showed he could get a shot pretty much when he wanted, eventually earning an offer at camp.
Kobe Johnson – 2021 – G – Nicolet
He was playing hurt and it definitely affected his ability to get to the rim, but Johnson showed why his upward trajectory has been so large as of late. If he needs to settle for jumpers, Johnson can knock down open spot-up opportunities or connect on step-back attempts. A legit 6-foot-3 guard who’s still growing, Johnson is best known for his vision and feel for the game. Once he gets into the paint or has a transition run out, Johnson can pick apart a defense like a surgeon. Holding offers from UW-Milwaukee, DePaul, and Indiana State. A couple of high majors — Wisconsin, Iowa, Marquette, and Butler are expected to give a strong look in July.
Connor Kochera – 2020 – W/G – St. Viator (IL)
Kochera made plays in a variety of different ways on Saturday. His 3-point shooting was on point for most of the day. Kochera has good size (6-4) and can rise and fire over the top of defenders. Kochera did a good job of getting defenders leaning back and then pulling up from beyond the arc. Also a standout defender, Kochera played sound basketball on that end and gave some quality guards problems. I like his leadership too. Kochera is always talking and giving his teammates encouraging. He’s definitely somebody they enjoyed playing with.
Cade Meyer – 2021 – F – Monroe
We elevated Meyer in the recent rankings update, but based on Saturday, we probably didn’t go high enough. A guy that showed flashes in the spring, Meyer really started to put things together at the Kohl Center. The 6-foot-7 forward is a state high jump champion and can fly to the rim. However, his outside and mid-range shot is now starting to come along, making Meyer a threat away from the rim. I really like the way this kid runs the floor and creates transition opportunities. Mid-major programs should start getting involved with this high-upside, quickly developing prospect. Expect Wisconsin to start showing him some love as well after the performance he had on Saturday.
Andrew Morgan – 2021 – PF – Waseca (MN)
Prep Hoops knows all about this kid, so his performance at camp wasn’t a surprise. An absolute monster on the PH Circuit, Morgan confirmed his standing as one of the top sleepers in the Midwest and a guy whose recruitment will take off fast once college coaches get in the gym and watch him live. Morgan had arguably the best post footwork among those in attendance. He’s a guy who can take contact in the post and use it against defenders with a spin or face up and go to work. Even more intriguing, Morgan can step out and shoot the ball a little bit. It’s not something he uses often, but is certainly comfortable taking open 3-pointers. A high motor, blue collar post player, Morgan also runs the floor exceptionally well and never gives up on a play.
Cameron Palesse – 2021 – G – Waukesha West
Wisconsin ended up offering Hepburn, but Palesse definitely didn’t hurt himself. The Waukesha West standout looked really good as a mid-range shooter, hitting some tough, contested shots off the bounce. You gotta like the size (6-3) and length for the point guard position and Palesse is someone who can score and facilitate at a high level. Defensively, Palesse also has a lot of dog in him. He doesn’t back down from a challenge and wants to shut down the best player on the other end of the floor. LIU-Brooklyn, UW-Milwaukee, Canisius, and UC-Davis have already offered going into the next live periods.
Brandin Podziemski – 2021 – SG – SJNMA
Entering the top 10 in the rankings this week, Podziemski backed it up with a strong performance in Madison. The lefty looks so confident as a shooter after a strong spring at the 17U level. Podziemski has a quick, smooth release and he’ll take advantage of any defender that doesn’t close out hard. Podziemski certainly shouldn’t fall past Division 2. If he’s going to take the next step, he’ll need to pack on some weight, improve his quickness off the dribble, but he’s able to play above the rim at 6-foot-2 and it feels like he still has room to increase his athleticism. Podziemski ended the day on a great note, knocking down a flurry of shots as he was unconscious from downtown.
Will Tschetter – 2021 – PF – Stewartville (MN)
A kid we knew nothing about coming in, but definitely grabbed our attention. Tschetter can flat out shoot the rock and has some guard-like ability in that regard. Tschetter was finding his spots in transition and letting it fly early in possessions. Tschetter got extremely hot during the morning sessions and was giving other forwards fit as they could not get out to him quick enough. A 6-foot-8, Tschetter definitely has some intriguing upside.
