As summer ball is now in full swing, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the state’s top players on the rise in a variety of positions.
Below are some of the state’s players to keep your eyes on in the 2021 class
Kaona Ashley, 5’9, G, 2021, Collegiate
An athletic guard who has nice handles and good control. He’s a smart guard with the ball in his hands and can score for himself and is good at finding open looks or at least enough room to get his shot off. He is a good passer and an aggressive defender on the ball. He has good footwork and shows a lot of effort on the floor.
Mathew DeLeon, 5’11, G, 2021, St. James
does a little bit of everything on the floor. He rebounds well for his size and is a good defender and hustle player. He sacrifices himself and can get on the board and score but he plays just as hard regardless of the score. He can dribble his way out of trouble and distribute well also.
Parker Scott, 6’0, G, 2021, Maize South
A nice guard with long arms and a good shot. He has a smart game and can operate as a shooter behind the perimeter. He turns on his speed when he needs it and can get around players and pass inside. He also can pull it back and has a nice step back shot.
Drew Middleton, 5’9, G, 2021, Circle
A feisty guard who looks to jump passing lanes and force turnovers and cause his opponents to overthink the game. He’s a defensive minded player who has quick hands and good timing. He can also handle the ball some and looks to pass to his teammates quickly and will shoot when he’s open from distance.
Trey Abasolo, 5’11, G, 2021, Mulvane
A quick player with good handles and nice shot who can get open looks. He is very quick and aggressive on the ball and he can make plays for himself and play off the ball as well. he can get to the free-throw line and connect and is good at selling contact and getting fouls called on both ends of the floor. A nice player who can get on the board.
