34 teams from around the state will play 4-6 games each. It is open to the public to watch on all 3 days.
Here are 25 things I am looking forward to seeing:
1. Looking forward to watching Goldwater, Tempe, Willow Canyon, Phoenix Country Day, Regis Jesuit (CO), Yuma Catholic, Flagstaff, North Valley Christian Academy and Desert Edge. I haven’t seen some of these teams ever or it’s been at least 2 years. Always excited to see new teams and discover brand new prospects.
2. Youngker incoming freshman DeMarion Anderson. The young guard has already had a breakout summer with some big games.
3. South Mountain group of young guards. LJ Ginnis, DeOtis Nunn Jr. and Zay Freeney all have talent.
4. Sunnyslope talented team. The Vikings have one of the top teams in the AIA led by the talented center of Carson Basham.
5. AZ Compass Prep talented team. One of the more loaded prep teams in AZ comes in with multiple big time prospects and possibly 7-10 D1 players.
6. Desert Vista‘s Osasere Ighodaro. The rising senior is literally the biggest riser in the entire country.
7. Tri-City‘s Fallou Diagne. Another rising senior is a high major target.
8. Buckeye‘s Tay Boothman. Some opposing coaches have tweeted or mentioned that he’s been the best guard in the senior class since he’s come back from his injury.
9. Peoria‘s talented youth. Kevin Kogbara leads the young group but Awar Anyieth, Tre Bell and Corey Perry all can go.
10. Rancho Solano Prep‘s rising seniors of Hunter Ruck and Tyson Legner. Both are due for breakout seasons and will take the bulk of the teams shot attempts this upcoming HS season.
11. Paradise Honors‘s talented team. Jalen Scott’s been injured this Spring and hopefully is he a full-go plus Jerry Iliya has been tearing it up early on. They also have talented sophs to look out for in Blessing Nwotite and Logan Pohl.
12. McClintock‘s duo of rising senior Chance Garland and incoming freshman Mark Brown.
13. Basha‘s young core led by Trenton McLaughlin.
14. Desert Ridge‘s young core led by Joe Kelsey plus rising senior Brennan Armijo.
15. Moon Valley‘s senior duo of athletic wing James Burries and stud PG Trent Hudgens.
16. San Tan Charter‘s senior PG Kahan Shoulders. Quick and fast scorer.
17. Hamilton‘s senior SG Jamar Brown. Shooter with bounce.
18. Williams Field’s rising junior trio of Montez Taylor, Ti Cohrane and Tanner Crawford. All 3 have talent and are the core of a rising 5A team.
19. Arcadia‘s rising junior Owen Shaw. Burly forward does not play club ball so this is where you have to see him.
20. Cienega’s rising junior of JT Elder. Long and talented forward has a bright future.
21. Seton Catholic’s senior trio of Michael Hanson, Keyshon Upchurch and Sam Mobisson. The Sentinels will rely heavily on them this year.
22. Corona del Sol‘s senior duo of Anthony Irvin and Eric Blackwell. Rising seniors can both fill it up.
23. Catalina Foothills rising big man Will Menaugh and senior guard Hayden Moser. Both have talent for the always tough Tucson team.
24. ALA-QC rising seniors of Devon Brooke and Dyson Lighthall. A small school but both 6’7-ish players can both play after HS.
25. Desert Mountain‘s young group. With 11 seniors on last years team, they are essentially starting over. They have a talented soph core and it will be interesting who steps up this season.
